[2011+] QX56 new motor, timing chains, etc

Isn't Highway driving easier on the engine?? knock on wood.. I'm still ok with my truck.. again the only issue I have with my beast is the stupid Nav system.. I don't even use it anymore because it so useless.. I take out my phone and use google maps

LOL!!!! I just updated mine right before our trip...and it's better...but I wish they would have fixed the damn search near by....that aggravates me!!

52000 miles in 2.5 years so most of mine is hi way. No towing. I found one more receipt and have Infiniti customer service involved. Supposed to hear back by Friday. She didn't know how they refused warranty without tearing the motor apart and seeing signs of abuse, sludge.

I hope they do the right thing. If not, then it's back to GMC for me otherwise I'll buy a new QX I'd they fix it without a fight. My history is brand loyal. I've had many GM cars and trucks and moved to Audi and Infiniti. They would be smart to do the right thing.

52K and Nav

yeah 52K miles should be easy with these motors. I agree with you and your Infiniti customer rep. They should have to look into the motor before deny not fixing it. When I had my first free oil changed at the Infiniti dealership they put in Kendall 10w-40 regular mineral oil. Heck I didn't know that Kendall was still being made. That was cutting edge oil circa 1978.
So about 1600 miles later I changed to Mobil one full syn. They have not touched it since, besides they spilled out down the filler neck on the valve cover, had to clean that off.
They can KMA on the oil receipt. I have a few from Costco when Mobile was on sale, and O'reilleys. Most Mobile-one purchases are from the ' china-mart' between the PB and Corona on the receipt.
I did change to Valvoline synthetic, this last change on the QX, cause I wanted to see if it stays lighter in color longer. Valvoline stays very light and clean in my 98' Jeep straight six, right on up to 5k miles every time.
But not in that QX. Drive it a few times and its getting dark like the oil in my Diesel.
yeah this timing chain thing has given me a not so warm feeling. Wish I had my old Montero back .

yeah Nav is crazy, Won't let you enter a destination unless you are in park.
Wife had a rented 2015 Chevy Suburban recently. It would let you enter a destination after you acknowledged you were the passenger motoring down the super-slab.

Keep us posted. Have a good one,
parrott

2011 QX 56, ' Blackie', with 20" wheels and very new windshield wipers, 15,674.

38K miles 2012 all options zero issues. oil changes @ 3K. bought brand new. ALL work.. i mean ALL work done at infiniti dealer.

My dealership uses Mobil 5000...I believe...unless your car requires 20wt...then it's Mobil 1.

65k...new 2011 2wd Tech...oil changes every 3,750...bring my own oil to the dealership since first oil change...was Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30...now Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30...only touched by dealership since day one...

I was able to come up with one more receipt and Infiniti stepped up and performed the repair under warranty. The bill was $1800 so not the $4k to $5k I thought. At any rate, I am glad they decided to do the right thing. The dealer really fought for me. I have purchased many vehicles from the over the years.

I had to fight but Infiniti did the right thing and repaired the vehicle. I was able to come up with one more receipt for an oil change around the 15000 mile mark. The started the repair on Thursday and I had the truck back on Friday. Other than my grille is jutting out a little bit where it meets the hood, it's all good. I'll run it a little while and get a new one. Only thing is that I have to black interior with the dark wood and not light wood trim. As far as I can tell, if you want the deluxe technology package, you HAVE to get the light wood. Might be a deal breaker.

That's good news CarbonZ.. but take it back and have them fix the trim work/grill ..

The fact that they fought you on an obvious warranty repair, you should tell them fuk off and find yourself a new dealership to buy your next QX (if that's what you're looking to buy).

I agree....take it back!

I also agree with you about the light wood trim....i have that they changed it...the dark is so much better....or they could have used the silver ash wood that's in the M/Q70...I love it when the sun hits it...I just stare at it when I'm in there...lol

I'll call them Monday about it. There is a whole list of parts they replaced that is too much to type out. Parts were under $400 and total was $1800 but no charge to me.

The dealer was helpful. It was Nissan putting up a fuss. I've bought about 8 vehicles in the last 12 years from this dealer. I'd get a new QX but I don't like the Stratford wood color with black interior. You cannot get the tech package with the darker wood which is what I have now. WTF??

Looked the parts up as well...they are cheap...

I know it's labor intensive but this is what infuriates me even more...its easier for them to subsidize the labor and just issue a recall already....parts are cheap....just do the right thing...

ooo... I though you said it was the other way around.. with the dealer fighting you about it being a warranty repair

Just my experience fwiw.....

I have a friend that owns a Q-Lube, and he does all the oil, transmission, differential stuff on all my vehicles except for my Vette. Had a warranty issue on my wifes ride a couple of years ago, where they questioned oil changes. Called my friend, everythings computerized - and they emailed the history to the dealership in about 5 minutes. End of questions.....

2012 qx56 timing chain

We just bought this 2012 QX56 with 41k on it to replace my wife's POS 2010 Yukon Denali (which has had more electrical issues than I can shake a stick at!). Starting the QX up when cold is producing a significant whining from the timing chain area which last 1 to 2 minutes, NOT GOOD! The dealer has checked and confirmed that at 41.5k there is a timing chain issue and has parts ordered for it. A little background on this truck. It was driven mostly highway miles before I bought it and was always serviced at the dealer with every oil change occurring at 3500 or less miles (all of which has been documented via dealer records). Now for a little background on me... I am an ASE Certified Master Technician, I have been in the auto repair business for 25 years and own my own repair ficility. The reason I bring up my background is because this type of failure is almost unheard of in the automotive industry. The only vehicles I have ever seen with this type of failure were Nissan Maximas with the VQ series engines with 8 to 10k oil change intervals i.e. Customers whom only come in when their vehicles are broken! This being said these timing chain failures that are happening on the current generation QX's is NOT due to lengthy OCI (oil change intervals). This is clearly a part defect issue or design issue with the oiling system of the timing chain and or guides. Before my vehicle is taken in for the timing chain repair I am going to take a sample of the motor oil and have it sent out too Black Stone Labratories and have it analyzed for contaminants. If they see metal fragments or plastic particles in the oil I will then have a better understanding of what is causing this type of failure. I will keep you guys posted. My preliminary guess is that there is insufficient oil being supplied to the timing chain thereby causing excessive wear to the timing chain and its components.

Bingo! Which is why the replacement parts are updated parts...new chain, oil jets, timing chain guides...so we will see how this pans out.

Keep us posted!!!

I've been looking at QX's for a while, almost got one last year but went a different route. I still really like them but the timing chain issue is a major concern for me. I'd only be looking at CPO models because of it but I'd assume I'd always have to carry an Inifinti extended warranty which curbs my enthusiasm.

2012 here all the bells and whistles. no issues with the chain. Fatz went to the hospital a couple weekends ago for fluids and recall stuff--clean bill of health.

squeaky wheel gets the grease and more people post online with an issue than those who dont have issues. every car has some bad production runs off the assembly line.

So I was just informed that my timing chain has failed and was giving a $5,200 quote to fix it. I bought mine used a few years ago and just found out the engine was replaced once already at 65,000 because of sludge. What is going to prevent this timing chain from being a problem again down the road and has body has Infiniti pick up the tab to fix it when they're off warranty??

Thanks!

Thanks for the informative post and I'm impressed with your background!! Are you available to discuss this? I just had my 2011 QX56 diagnosed with a timing chain replacement and I'm getting quoted between $3,800 to $5,200 to fix it.
