[2011+] QX56 new motor, timing chains, etc

Man.... I'm glad I purchased that 6yr/120k warranty. But so far so good with my Truck

luxury vehicle???

I don't understand..The dealer sees the problem. . We see it.. thankfully we bought the extended warranty.. really. However if the problem keeps repeating why should we have to buy an extended warranty where is Infiniti. ..resale value.. etc. Two timing chain issues.. cat's. It's embarrassing to tell anyone you have this vehicle.
Has anyone been successful in getting Infiniti to step up???

I know in my area they are still commanding top dollar on used ones.

Nope....not yet unless you are having timing chain noises...

I think they will have to do something...it would be different if it was isolated and they didn't have a revised part...but them having to revise the oil jets and timing chain guides tell it all.

I didn't know they revised the jets/guides.. when did that happen??

I have 2012 QX56 I bought new. I had the SES light come on and it bucked and snorted until I turned it off and then back on. The dealer said the timing chain needs replaced. The truck has 52,000 miles on it and Infiniti just informed me that they will NOT cover the repair. The reason? I can't show them proof of every oil change. I never realized that you needed to keep every receipt after an oil change. I changed it no more than 7500 mile intervals as the owners manual states. I'm shocked that a company with the stature that Infiniti has would try and weasel out of a repair like this. What does this say about their integrity? It would be one thing if this was negligence on my part but this is a known design flaw that requires updated parts to repair (from what I'm told).

Any help from people that have fought this with Infiniti before would greatly be appreciated. If they don't step up, this will be my last one for sure.

Were you using synthetic oil? That's more than twice the recommended service interval of 3700. Where did you have it serviced? Most all shops keep records of changes. If you can attain those records you may be able to prove that it was not your fault.

This is one of just many reasons why going to the dealership for service work is worth the hassle and cost.

I'm sorry for your issues. Hope for the best.

how many receipts are missing?? when was your last oil change?? I guess they're looking for 13-14 receipts..

shoot, you can even ask your credit card company to produce a receipt record for 2 years.. they can easily categorize it for you based on auto repairs.

if you have 10 or more receipts, tell them to fk ing fix it or you'll sue them.

I used synthetic when I changed the oil. I'm not sure what the dealer used when they changed it. My owners manual states 7500 mile service intervals for standard use. Many of my miles are hiway miles. I think it's a cop out. I had 5 GM SUV's (escalades, Hummers, Denali's) and never had this kind of problem.

They claim they are looking for more than half. I travel alot and use the 10 minute oil change places. I'll have to check the one near me and see if I went there. I'm not going to give up fighting them. I imagine this repair is a ton of money. They said 18 hours labor plus parts.

If you're using synthetic, then all you're looking for is 7 receipts... shouldn't be that hard to locate, and I'm certain you used a credit card for all your oil change transactions.. so looking it up on the credit cards history/statements shouldn't be that difficult for you to research.

I use a debit card and it doesn't sort them like that. I can only go back a few months online. I don't have the missing receipts. I know I used a few quick change places away from home.

any bank can retrieve your past statements... might cost you a few bucks, but that's a whole lot cheaper than $3-$5k!!

I have a 2012 QX56 with 52000 miles and also have timing chain failure. It is not failed to the point where it broke and took out the motor, but it has the hi pitched whine associated with this issue. Infiniti is denying the claim because they are saying I didn't change the oil often enough. I changed it according to the recomended 7500 mile service interval in the book. The problem is they say that is not often enough and I can only produce receipts for 4 changes. I never knew I was required to keep the receipts. The warranty book states that Nissan cannot deny warranty coverage based on the lack of maintenance receipts. This is a serious design flaw in these engines and Nissan is running away from the problem. I have had many large GM SUV's and never once had any mechanical problems like this. It was more little things. I went with this vehicle because of the technology and quality. I was certainly wrong. I would not recommend this vehicle to ANYONE considering a used one. These timing chains are a disaster waiting to happen.

My car is at the dealer now and I'm not done fighting. I'll update the board on here as well. Does anyone have the TSB number for this problem?

Thanks

They can't deny warranty work so long as the car is properly maintained according to manufacturer's recommendations. They certainly can deny warranty work if it's not maintained. You can't believe that it would be covered under warranty if you hadn't changed your oil in 2.5 years and 52k miles.

Having said that, there is no requirement for you to show receipts as proof of service. If you, for example, had a maintenance log that you kept in Excel showing the date, mileage, method (i.e., DIY / Jiffy Lube / Dealer), and maintenance performed, most dealers would take that as evidence that you've done your part. The burden of proof would be on them to show that lack of oil changes contributed to the failure of your timing chain.

Seriously... the burden of proof is on Infiniti to prove you didn't change the oil.. was the oil low or dirty when you brought in the truck for an evaluation?? Just get all your credit card statements... I charge tons per month, but I can easily comb through the statements for the specific item I might be searching fer

Contact your bank....they should easily be able to get that info for you. Most keep 5-7 years worth of records...

This is crazy...all oil companies need to use this damn engine for their benchmark test. I've heard that the VVEL is very hard on oil and that the 5.6 is even harder due to the high pressure fuel pump on bank 2 causing the timing chain to stretch when the oil jet stop performing like they should...Infiniti should just fix via recall it before it soils their name...i'll go back to that ugly, boring Lexus if I get burned...

How are most of you Gents driving your trucks... Highway/City/Combo

I drive mainly Highway (85%)

Mainly city (70%/30%)....just took a trip for Thanksgiving about 1,200 miles...

Isn't Highway driving easier on the engine?? knock on wood.. I'm still ok with my truck.. again the only issue I have with my beast is the stupid Nav system.. I don't even use it anymore because it so useless.. I take out my phone and use google maps
