In most cases the fix is implemented in the assembly months before they start sending the TSB and kits out to dealers...kind of like recalls...they have to make sure they have enough for assembly first. Then they will take care of the owners...
 
Well i do hate to revive an old post but my 2012 QX56 is at the dealership now because of a timing chain failure. 81K miles.
The dealer has already tore it down and the extended warranty company is requesting proof of oil changes. I am missing my most recent proof of oil change, which without it shows a gap of 9200 miles. I have a CC statement with me spending $43 at the parts store but dont have the itemized reciept of what was actually purchased which was oil. This is the only time i changed my own oil. How screwed am i going to be or does anyone think the CC statement will suffice.
I believe that with a known TSB of this issue it should be replaced but extended warranties always look for ways to deny the claim.
 
Did the auto parts store take down your phone number?? If they did, they'll have a list of stuff you purchased.
 
After 30 days of waiting, here is the standard issue letter received from Infiniti. They didn't even bother reading my letter which stated 1) the dealer that sold my car has closed the file on the noise issue as they believe it is normal and 2) the second dealer, after replacing the power steering pump and alternator tensioner, does not know where the noise is coming from.

"We wish to acknowledge your recent correspondence addressed to Infiniti Canada; we regret the circumstances which have prompted you to contact us.
Infiniti and our dealers strive to serve the needs of their customers by offering superior customer service. We are indeed sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction surrounding the identification/resolution of the sound you have noticed upon start-up of your vehicle.
As we were not party to the discussions or interactions you have had dealership, it is difficult for us to comment on these matters; nor are we in a position to intervene in what is, primarily, the role of your Infiniti dealership - that of diagnosing and reparation of vehicles. As the manufacturer and distributor of new vehicles, we make all technical information, libraries and personnel available to the dealerships to assist them; they are, if you will, the "eyes, ears and hands on the ground" charged with assessment and remediation.
Naturally, we have a continual process of dealer evaluation in place to assist with and encourage best practices of dealership operation. We will certainly notate your concerns in these matters, as a part of that process; however, we would have to suggest that you continue to work with your dealership(s) as they have a direct link to our senior technical authorities should they require assistance.
We thank you for taking the time to make us aware of this unfortunate situation."

So I wrote back : What am I to do now that Infiniti Canada is telling me to return to the dealership for assessment and remediation when the Brossard dealership has closed my file and the Laval dealership cannot help me any further. Am I expected to go to another dealership? Where? Infiniti dealerships are few and far in between.
As the manufacturer with, as you indicate, all the technical information, libraries and personnel available, why can’t you provide the direction when your dealerships have failed to identify the problem? This was the purpose of contacting Infiniti Canada in the first place. The two dealerships are not able to provide further assistance.
Please have your technical personnel review the two videos that I had sent and advise the probable cause and remedy.

Well after two weeks of pulling all my oil change reciepts, " i will keep everything from now on, lesson learned" the extended warranty company wanted images of the inside of the motor, timing chain area, so i had to authorized tear down, $600. Two days later i recieved the phone call that the warranty company is covering all cost of repairs, approx $5200.

DING DING DING... we have a winner. Congrats on the victory, and hopefully they picked up the $600 tear down.

Which warranty company was this?? Is it the one Infiniti sold you or was it an aftermarket company.
 
I wonder why the prices for the Timing chain fix is so varied?? Mine was valued at $2200, others were in the $3k range and your's at $5200... such a huge range!!
 
they aren't called "$tealerships" for nuthin' ;-) . They will charge 400$ every half hour for labor if they could get away with it...

2012 81K miles, Took it into the shop for Timing Chain noise. After two weeks back and forth between Infiniti and the extended warranty, wanting proof of every oil change, then wanting the front end tore down and then wanting pictures of the timing chain area, they have agreed to cover all repairs. My Infiniti rep told me they would be covering almost $5200 in repairs. I was stressing for a bit, but now i wonder, why some dealers are charging $2000 and others are above $5000.
 
I purchased the warranty at the time i purchased my vehicle. Not sure the name of the warranty but the dealership has referred to it as "ryan warranty."
 
Safe bet to buy used? - What about Timing Chain issue?

Hi all;

We're in the hunt for a 2011+ QX (had an 08 that we loved) and want to make sure that I don't get stuck paying the bill for a timing chain repair (or engine replacement!) down the road.

I've called 2 different dealer service departments, and both told me that Infiniti stands behind this issue 100%, even for 2nd owners, which we know isn't the case always.

I will be purchasing a pre-owned QX because it makes no sense to spend $70k for a new one when clean 40-50k mile examples can be had for $45k....

Buying used, how do I afford myself some protection on this issue?

Based on your guys' experience, do you think Infiniti warranty a timing-chain issue on the following cars?

1) Used (non-CPO) without any records from original owner, but well-maintained from my purchase onwards with my service records.

2) Used, CPO car (at least implys that it was well-cared for enough to meet Infinti CPO standards at time of purchase) without any records, but well-maintained from my purchase onwards with my service records.

3) CPO car with full records, well maintained with records after.

Should I ONLY buy a CPO car, and ONLY keep it while the powertrain warranty is in effect? Would an aftermarket warranty be better or worse?

Has a "safe" production date been established yet?

And, lastly, is this something that can be changed preventatively before damage is done?

Currently in the same scenario, subscribed.
My only question is does this vehicle fit in everyone's garage? I have 5 panel height garage and currently park my Honda Odyssey which does fit with not a ton of room around it.

I think it'll fit, our 1st Gen QX fit without any issues.
 
very tight fit in an 8x7 garage... I don't even bother.. I just leave it outside/driveway.

as for used/CPO.. always get it with CPO, that extra $2k you pay for a 3 year warranty is well worth it.

Agreed- we have a 08 QX and will be upgrading at some point. The measurements between the 1st gen and 2nd gen QX's are minimally different.

I've measured and could fit a XL sized Escalade in my garage. There would only be 4 inches of clearance but I can fix it so my wife can park it safely.
 
I have a 7ft garage door and as have already been said it is a very tight fit. Coming into the garage you only have about a finger width above the luggage rack bars.

If the CPO is only for 3 years and you are paying an extra $2-$3k I would skip it and go with Endurance. I think I paid just around $4k for bumper to bumper for an extra 5yrs and putting it around 112k miles on the clock. The nice thing since my car was still under factory warranty they insured everything just like it was a factory warranty.

You asked about the timing chain. Don't ask if it will happen, just prepare for it and have the necessary insurance to pay for it... "When" it happens. Mine also started going bad ...infinity replaced it since it was under the 70k mile warranty for the engine and drivetrain... You know it is starting to go out when you start to hear a BLOWER whining noise (like a race car). Once you hear it take the car in and get it fixed before it does more damage.

there is no evidence that ALL qx's 2011+ will have this particular issue, so its not fair to say <<when> it will happen. thousands of these cars on the road now with no issues. all one can do is keep records of every maintenance appointment and have it serviced when nissan recommends.

if anyone is afraid nissan wont honor any warranty or repair of this, they should not purchase this particular car.
 
If you don't have the full service history I'd stay away...if you do get one make sure you get an extended warranty...and change the oil every 3,750...if you don't want to do those things then look for something...maybe an LX570..
 
FWIW, I picked a random warranty company online today (Warranty Direct, I have no affiliation, just FWIW) and called them with a hypothetical 2012 QX with 52,000 miles on it. They can provide a pretty full-coverage wear & tear (not just mechanical break-down) warranty for 61 months and 61,000 addtl miles. I asked specifically about this issue, and the warranty contract states that as long as *I* maintain the vehicle to manufacturer service recommendations from the date of warranty purchase onward (regardless of past service history), that they will cover engine repairs, including wear to the rings, wear to the timing chain, etc.

So I think when I'm ready to get one, I'll pick the cleanest/best-service history one I can find, and put an extended warranty on it (or a CPO wrap).

I would buy an LX570 or 200-series Cruiser in a heartbeat (loved by 80 and 100 series) but it's going to be a PITA to fit 3 kids car-seats in one :/
