Hello, first time infinity owner here. Traded in my Beemer for a "reliable" infinity 2011 QX56. My story is one of engine shudder and eventually having it strand me and unable to get to work. It would first present itself as rough idle right after a cold start and the engine wouldn't go above ~3000 RPM. At first you could then shut the truck off and restart it and it would be fine. However, I still sent it into the shop after it happened and they though it was one of the VCT solenoids. So they replaced that (took a week) and gave the truck back. Within a couple of days it did it again. Back to the shop to have the other VCT solenoid replaced.. (Another week gone). After getting the truck back again, it lasted only another few days and then it stranded me b/c it would not go over 1000 RPM / 10 MPH, and restarting it made no difference, had to call the tow truck.
Here is where the real fun begins.
The dealer had the truck for a week and could not replicate the issue. I called them on day 5 or 6 and re-iterated that the issue happens on a cold start and it you would know right away if you tried to drive it more than 150 feet.
On day 7 they replicated the issue and pulled a bunch of codes. They came back telling me it was the timing chain and a bunch of other goodies that would have to be replaced. Please note that this truck never made any of the whining or other noises reported here on the forum during cold startup.(other than then the electric fan test)
3 weeks LATER I got the truck back with 5k worth of parts (and that is with a 25% discount on parts) and 3k in labor. Thankfully all covered by the aftermarket warranty I purchased for the truck.
I was told that the cause of all this damage was the faulty OIL JETS for the timing chain area that were replaced with upgraded parts so this "won't happen again". I was(and still am) shocked to find out that this infinity had just rang up a 8k repair bill in the first month I had owned it. This is far more than I had ever spent on my M5!
Here is the list of parts they replaced in case anyone else needs the info:

You may notice that they had to replace the high pressure fuel pump too. (had not seen this before on this thread.) That part alone is 2 grand! The service advisor said "they don't have to replace those too often". I remarked that when it is buried 17 hours’ worth of work in the engine that it should NEVER have to be replaced..
So hopefully the truck will be fine now after being in the shop 5 weeks out of the last 8 I have owned it. Word to the wise, if you are going to get one of these used, make sure you get a warranty that covers these types of repairs like MaxCare did.
