[2011+] QX56 new motor, timing chains, etc

I don't want to lead you astray... It is a very time intensive repair and you have to get deep into the engine. BUT, it is possible to do yourself. Everything comes apart as it should. Print out the processes from the service manual and take a look.

Where are you located?

I'm located in Dallas Texas. I'll look for the service manual and see if it's a repair that I can tackle to save $3k to $4k.

that is definitely the best news i have heard from someone out of warranty. congrats!

I bought mine from Infiniti, service it at Infiniti, do regular oil changes and service through Infiniti, so I'm not sure if that is the reason why or if my dealer helped me get this through. Either way I'm happy as hell. Still waiting to get it back.

Do you have access to a lift?

I think that question answered it for me. Dropped it off at the dealer and should have it back in a couple days. Hopefully there won't be any expensive maintenance in the near future.

I got some assistance at 77k miles. at 98k miles both my catalytic converter banks faulted out. in the shop looking at a $5k bill. Same damn root cause - bas alignment on the oil jet

see my post above.

has anyone had luck with assistance on the cats who was out of warranty? $4.9k is a hard pill to swallow.

I was denied.

^^^^ Out of warranty assistance is a hit and miss with the dealer.
Why don't you go with an aftermarket setup ? There's a vendor on here,I think his name is NightOwl or NightCrawl to that effect and he sells a nice setup and its cheaper...
Just a suggestion.

I paid for mine to be done......there wasn't anything aftermarket that I could fine.

We were noted a recall in place for our 2012 qx56 over the phone for the timing issue as we have another issue with losing battery power.

Recall # T6305
ITB # 16-105

When did qx model begin production in Japan?

Does anyone know when the production of the QX model began in Japan? And is that recall real, I couldnt find anything else on it. In the market for a QX, trying to find strongest model used.
Thanks

Are you talking about the redesigned QX model which began in 2011?

And is that recall real, I couldn't find anything else on it.
Absolutely, ask any dealership or if you have a VIN # you can read about it there: http://www.infinitiusa.com/recalls-vin#/

Go for the QX80, although the QX56 has been great for us.

Thank you grillmaster, I was trying to figure out when the production began in Japan and if that had anything to do with the stop of the timing chain recall? I see that some 2013 have been recalled but not all. I am leaning towards a 2014 qx80 but wonder about the recalled vehicles repairs. When the timing chain is repaired, do you know if it is just replaced and subject to similar wear in years or are the components different to avoid this?

We are in need of vehicle fast and the only close ones are recalled and repaired. May have one shipped but doing my research first. The more I read about this vehicle the more I love it.

why did this thread just die and never have any updates past 2016? Those that had the timing issue fixed or done, have you had any reason to worry a second time around???

I had my done two years ago, I believe and I have not had a problem out of it since. The only thing the blow up for me was my a/c compressor, but I know I was on borrow time with that.

There is another thread that started 6-May-2016 on the topic:

https://infinitiforum.net/infiniti-forum/showthread.php?t=13847

I had the timing chain recall (P6305) service done 23-Dec-2017 at 82k miles and while there did other service items to round out the visit. Ex. Replacing drive belt and thermostat were "parts only" (no labor) because Infiniti was taking the front apart anyways.

I didn't have symptoms others had before the service and it's been running great after the service, 6k+ miles later. I have no concerns that the timing chain will be a problem for me.

:)
