[2011+] QX56 new motor, timing chains, etc

Jett... how much are the 2011/12s QXs going for in your neck of the country?

Jett... how much are the 2011/12s QXs going for in your neck of the country?

I'm in Michigan, almost no inventory of used QXs here. Nice examples out of Chicago 2011/2012 with 50k miles are between $42-44k (non CPO)

Well I have aQ56 which hit 75,000 miles and started hearing the noise.Dealer initially tried to use the you went 2000 over recommended service interval line and so now have the jet/chain issue (no service interval light came on despite the fact that they are the ones who did the last service)....they never set the oil interval...and it was only 2000 miles over...oil change was 6 months ago...
Argued with the manager who conceded there is a TSB out for this issue and they have had multiple cars have this problem despite not going 2k over.....regardless he said he would get the parts covered (claims they cost 1k) but I would have to pay labor ie 2300...sounds about what people are paying total anyway....I have owned Mercedes,Audi,BMW,Porsche and even a high end Italian marque but never had a company not stand behind their product the way infinity apparently is doing with this issue....manager has a call in to his rep but advised not to hold my breath as I am 5k outside the power-train warranty....considering this is around when the issue occurs and is a known issue infinity should fix the ones that have this issue....IMHO...sounds like they suck at this....first and last infinity if this doesn't get fixed....should have bought a toyota or lexus I guess....Ive seen Porsche and Audi fix similar situations....even Maserati....this truly sucks....If the rep does not help with this I will be telling everyone I come into contact with about their horrible level of support....which hopefully will cost them more than what this will cost me or them to fix it....

What surprises me the most is they mention 7500 for schedule 2....which would apply to my car as it is mostly highway driving....which would mean I wasn't even over the recommended interval ie 6000 miles...

If they're gonna cover the parts, they should cover the labor... that's just bull$hit.

Yeah...that sounds like some BS...after looking at how the oil looks after 3k it's no way I can even imagine going more that 3,750 miles. I don't know why this engine is so hard on oil...maybe the oil isn't being filtered enough. I will say this though...this should have been a recall and no one can make me think any different. Even though the majority might not experience this failure enough have to where they should be footing the bill on this. Infiniti needs to own up to their mistake and fix it.

Well, it happened. Started to hear the noise last week along with fluctuating power/rpm. Took it in and is the dreaded timing chain. Was quoted $4.4k out of warranty, was able to talk it down to $3.5k.

Such a shame, just purchased the '11 this past Feb with 75k on the odo from a Porsche dealer. Learned after that I was unable to purchase the elite Infiniti warranty due to vehicle being >70k miles.

Having owned 4 other Nissan/Infiniti vehicles prior with not as much a hiccup, this one is proving to be a disappointment so far.

wow... $4400/$3500...... I don't know why mine was only $2200 (but I paid $100 deductible due to having the extended warranty). The cost to fix the "timing chain" issue is all over the place

dealer will charge what they will. even maintenance service costs vary so this is nothing new...

My 2011 Infiniti QX56 started to make whining noise at 82k and dealer said need to replaced timing chain which is 4500. Just saw this was a on going problem but there is no recall!! Ask dealer about it and he said that they know about it and it's with the 11-12. So I called consumer affairs today and was told to called back Monday because they need to asked someone else about the issue. He said it's his first time hearing this. Don't believe that!!! Hopefully they fix it for me and then I'm selling this suv. Already had to get roof painted since it started to peel off

QX56 Infinity Engine Timing Chain Issue

I have been following discussions with interest. I have a 2011 Nissan Patrol Y62, as sold in Australia, with the VK56D v8 5.6L petrol engine, built in Japan I understand. Seems to have the same specs. as the engine referred to in the main Thread. Could a Member pls advise the engine designation, where built and any other relevant info. on engines suffering the timing chain issue. This info. could influence me and other owners in Aust. to buy Extended Warranty Insurance!
Thanks chaps.

Could be up to $2500 AUD. Not cheap but neither it appears is the timing chain repair!
Do you know if the problem motors are made in U.S., Japan or elsewhere?

roof painting peeling??!!! I haven't even looked up there yet!! Other than the timing chain issue, the beast has been rather reliable.... though the battery is weak, and I can't stand the navigation (yes, I'm still using the original nav software that came with the beast, but I'm not forking over $1xx for more crap...I just use google maps on my phone; much more reliable).

Luckily I'm 6'9 and I can see part of the roof. Started to rain and it slowly got worse. Got a phone call today from consumer affairs and they are not covering the timing chain issue and also that's the first time they have heard this. Horrible!!!

Happened to me recently as well.
2012 QX56, with (fortunately!) 58,000.
Dealer kept it for almost 4 weeks, took engine out (according to them) and replaced chain/ pump.
5 days later, AC stops working and then the transmission quits.
Guessing the AC and tranny are directly related to my engine sitting around in a parts bin for 3-4 weeks. :?

Dealer still has truck waiting on parts to fix current issues.

Do they report these to CarFax? Is my resale value shot?
Any recourse with dealer on current repairs that went bad?

Good news is I have 1,000 miles of factory warranty remaining.
Bad news is I don't trust the work being done and only have 1,000 miles warranty remaining.

Recommendations on how to proceed with dealer?
Thanks!

Tell the dealer, you'll take the loaner QX as a fair exchange for the damage they've done to your QX..

If you're gonna keep the QX, you might as well buy that extended warranty through Infiniti, maybe they'll give it to you at cost if you raise a ruckus

"Never heard of this" Horse crap. I hate that for you.

Just had four year anniversary with our 2011 model, on Labor day. Its' doing well so far. The battery I think is about ready to crap out. I think I am going the 'Marc route' and get a AGM before the oncoming Ice age this winter.
I am pretty sure we bought a 7 year extended warranty from Infiniti, which was weird, because they said it ran the same time the initial 36k miles 3 year bumper to bumper warranty was running. So in essence we only have an extra 4 years. (21k miles)
That was 4 years ago, I think that's what happened in the cloud of negotiations war. I need to call infiniti and see if that is true. I have to get the state inspection this month, annoying. But I have already put new windshield wipers on, so they should pass it with flying colors.

I like the QX, but I will trade it if it drops the timing chain.

Yeah....the Infiniti Elite Warranty runs concurrently with the factory warranty which is 4 yrs/60k and the powertrain is 6yr/70k. I think mine is for 8yrs/120k...

i had idle issues (right after start, mostly), cleaning throttle body fixed them.

i still have issues with roughness/stuttering when going uphill at low RPMs. had fuel pump replaced, didn't fix them.

Thats what i was told at the tech center and that it was covered with my extended warranty (which i thought was weird)
I haven't experienced any stuttering while climbing hills, runs very strong other wise.

Thanks for the input..
