I've had my 2011 CPO QX56 for a few weeks now and I wanted to share some thoughts:

Things I love:

1.The interior spaciousness.
2.Bang for my buck (this suv demolishes the LX570 I was considering in these two areas -- room and value).
3.The feel of the leather seats and trims.
4.The Deluxe Touring Package (Wood wheel looks very classy and is designed for a terrific grip)
5.Blind spot monitor. It has become my new best friend. Never thought I'd use it -- but now its my go-to pal for switching lanes
6. The size of the rearview mirrors (HUGE and useful)
7. Power upon accelerating
8. Total, AMAZING silence inside while driving -- even at higher speeds. The solid, smooth, hushed feel of the truck while cruising is INCREDIBLE)
9. Smart Cruise Control. This is another feature I thought I'd never use -- but it is now indispensable to me on any trip that requires a highway ride for more than a few minutes. LOVE how the truck slows itself down to adjust for traffic upfront -- its a little unnerving at first, but now that I'm used to it and "trust" the truck.. WOW!
10.Ease of use for electronics. Nav system, Bluetooth, A/C, TV's -- they all just WORK. Easy to set up and use -- no fuss. Love it.
11. Auto fold center seat. Just push a button on the front console and the center row seats tip up for easy third row access. SWEET!

No love: (All small gripes)

1. The intelligent key open/close buttons on the front doors ONLY. Why not put these on the rear doors, too? Having to walk up to the front door to open the back door for the kiddies is no biggie, but gets a little old after many trips.
2. Speed of the folding mechanism for third row seats. I can go grab a coffee and drink it before these seats completely fold up or down.. zzzz S-L-O-W.
3. No "lock and close" button on the rear hatch. Gotta wait for the hatch to close and THEN I can lock the truck using the small hard-to-find button on the underside of the hatch lid.
4. No auto-folding mirror option. Big truck, mirrors should fold in automatically when parking and shutting the beast down. Plus the placement of the mirror controls wayyy down in the front console (to fold them in, adjust them, etc.) is almost impossible to find without fumbling around.
5. Gas tank size. Yes, as expected she gulps gas like there's no tomorrow, but fill-ups seem more frequent on this suv than on the other huge suv's I've owned.

So far...overall -- this is one of the best Automobiles I've ever owned. Love to drive it, love the features -- love the dealer service so far, too.

IF you are on the fence about getting one -- I say jump in -- you will NOT regret it!

Change ?

Well, the only things I would change:

1. Stiffen the shocks a bit, and 2, move the fuel gauge to the left side of the gauge cluster :D

I have learned to live with the HVAC controls, (I turn the dam AC off and roll down the window and listen to the mirror sing) LOL

That motor is a Horse!

Have a good one,
Parrott

Never thought anything about the touring suspension but have learned to absolutely love it.

Love the third row bench
Love the Power

Hate the seat because the front doesn't tilt up enough to support my legs.
Hate that you need to put the parking brake on to see the movie. It should just be Park.
Steering is a bit twitchy

and I thought of something else,,,

I wish my QX had real old fashioned timed intermittent wipers. Not the crazy, alleged 'rain sensing'. Just nice time adjusting wipers like on my 98 Jeep wrangler.
Thank goodness for rain-x

Here's some of my gripes on my '11 QX. All are just minor as well:

The parking sensors (front) should self-activate and not require me to hit the camera button first. They would always be on in my old Toyota Sequoia, which was nice anytime I got near something w/o having to remember to hit camera.
The center console armrest moves forward when I rest my arm on it. There is no stop/release lever to keep it from moving back and forth. My wife's '08 M35 had a release lever which then allowed you to slide it forward. That kept it from moving around all the time when you have your arm on it.
I have an iPod constantly connected to the USB port and a few quirks with it:
1. When I get an incoming call, it doesn't automatically pause the iPod. Minor quibble, but I thrive on playlists and only listening to songs I haven't listened to in a while. If I have a long call and forget to rewind my ipod back to the songs that kept playing during the call, then they get marked as played and I won't listen to them for quite some time.
2. It really annoys me that the two buttons on the screen when playing CD, iPod, Bluetooth are Menu and Play/Pause. What annoys me is that the highlighted button defaults to Menu and the buttons are side-by-side, not on top-to-bottom. So if I want to use my steering wheel buttons, there is no way for me to Pause the music w/o having to manually select Play/Pause on the touchscreen or use the dashboard dial to move the highlight over on the screen . If I use the steering wheel, it defaults to Menu. An incovenience, but one that really annoys me. Why couldn't it be top-to-bottom, so I can use the steering wheel controls to move up or down and select either Menu or Play/Pause. Or why not default to Play/Pause (as I would think that is the most frequently used option anyway).
Caller ID not displaying during Call Waiting. If I'm on the call within someone else and get an inbound call, it only displays Incoming Call and allows you to answer the new call. But I have to use my phone to actually see the name/number of the new inbound call. Defeats the purpose of hands-free.

Like I said, minor annoyances, but I still love my QX despite them.

I agree.

I'm smarter than some damn sensor and can decide on my own what speed or frequency I want the wipers to work at.

The mirror controls down low on the dash are not convienent, but then on the other hand, how often do you use them? Once they are set, you are good to go.

All in all it's the best large SUV out there in my opinion.

Here are mine (2012 QX black on black - full load):

- I would add a proper compass that doesn't require squinting at the Nav display and trying to figure out that North is not the only direction you are going. It should either be in the multi-function dash display or in the rear-view mirror. Really a large oversight on a vehicle such as this.

-I need 4WD, but would also rather not have it in AUTO all the time. There should be an option for 2WD only as well.

-A larger sunroof / vista roof. This thing has huge roof real estate that literally begs for a panoramic roof.

-LED DRL's (maybe this is coming up with the 2014's)

-Higher quality rear view and front view camera feed. I love the 360'round view but I find it grainy and it should be higher quality.

If I think of more I'll post them here.

My biggest gripe..... those dumb sensor-seeking intermitten wipers and the bluetooth mic . They SUCK. Otherwise, the QX is a beast all around.

cant please everyone. ;)

name one car/truck that has pleased each owner?

I'll wait... ;)

point is compromises have to be made, else the car will cost a million dollars.. ;)

and what I may think is a gripe, someone else may not...

i think one thing we all can agree on is this car is solid.. solid build, good workmanship.

i dont care for an iphone.. too cheap and simple for me, but i bet the MAJORITY of your cats will disagree and say the ifruit is the best (or close to it..) :D

My biggest complaints....

1) no digital speedo read out in the center cluster (or anywhere) like 99.9% of the vehicles on the street. GM's digital readout and headup display is awesome and really convenient for seeing how fast you are going.

2) Remote start (I know you can aftermarket this, but you should not have to on a $70K+ vehicle)

3) Slow third row seat motor

All easy fixes that they should have included.

QX

hey Marc, I don't think the guys are ragging on the QX. I think its an ideas/ suggestions thread. Things owners would like to change a little.
I think everyone here agrees it is a very well built vehicle, or they would not have plunked down their hard earned money.

Mine has no rattles at all. It is super solid and I wouldn't trade it for anything out there. The motor is awesome, easy to service. Its cool.:)
Maybe the Infiniti corporate guys will read some of these suggestions and say, yeah, that's not a bad idea ? Never know.

Marc, has the fuel gauge always been on the right side of the instrument cluster on your previous QX and Armada's ?
Curious.
Have a good one

I hear you parrott--didnt mean to sound like I was upset. :D

yes the petrol gauge has always been on the right side of the combination meter.

^^ I agree. HUD would be sweet too..once you have it on one car you will expect it on all!

and the open-door mechanism...Porsche Panamera can stay open at any amount 100% to 5%..best feature on that car I think.

I agree. Love my QX, best money I ever spent on a vehicle but sometimes I wonder if these car companies ever test their product before releasing them. If you gave me that truck for 1 week before releasing it I could have pointed out several things that need to be tweeked. That being said I guarantee I will buy another when this one gets old.

I have to agree here, the QX is by far the best vehicle I've owned. Yes, nothing is perfect and there are tweaks along the way that could be made, but since I'm now on my second QX (2010/mid-year-2013) it is improving. I do wonder what will change for 2014 as Infiniti doesn't seem to do a good job advertising what is 'new'. One suggestion I would have is for a trailer-anti-sway configuration, most 'tow' vehicles have this and the QX can tow more than most of them can..

Phantom Breaker...

...still playing around with the QX and just discovered the auto braking function. When activated, the truck stops by itself in slow moving heavy traffic.

Spooky, and cool.

Not sure I trust it yet though....

Add this to my "like it" column....

LOL you are just NOW discovering this? well, wait until you try to move into another lane without signaling! the Q will steer you back... :D

Here's a simple one I haven't seen - our 2012 QX56 is our first Infiniti. I was surprised that the turn signal doesn't have a lane change option - ability to bump the turn signal and get three flashes of the signal when on the freeway. That, and the center dash display seems outdated next to the modern feel of the cockpit.
Other than that - lots to love about this quiet, smooth, roomy cruiser.
