Anyone have issues with these intermittent wipers?? Apparently they don't work on the old "timer" principle and now use some type of infrared or sensor type reading.

Well in the daytime they work fine, but at night if the darn road is dark, the stupid sensor doesn't detect the rain drops accumulating on my windshield. They will activate if suddenly I drive by a light pole or approaching car that shines their lights onto the windshield or and I have to manually move the wiper gear up/down or rotate the sensitivity switch to activate them.

Same crap can happen in the day time if there is a fine mist... i can't see diddly

Hmmmm. Mine drive me crazy but in another way. They some times go crazy and wipe very fast for a few seconds even though there is very little rain.

They suck. I wish they had just left them manually adjustable.

Definitely not as accurate as other cars I've owned. That said, they are adjustable with the dial set within the wiper stalk. It won't fix it but might make it a little better.

My solution is Rainx. I put that on the windshield and wipers are an occasional use item at best.

Hopefully Infiniti monitors these website and see that their WIPERS SUCK!!

Other than that a very fine truck

Manually adjust

Yeah, what Silverback said: "...manually adjust" is the way to go. Makes me appreciate the manual adjust delay in my 98 Jeep Wrangler. Some day these engineers will realize, you don't need to over-engineer things. The more complected, the easier it is to break. The HVAC controls is another example.
Simpler designs with bullet proof reliability is always appreciated more I think.
Just sayin.
Have a good one,

Wiper sensor is crappy

Does anyone know if it's possible to convert the wiper "sensitivity" control to a more timed control.

When there is mist in the air or very light rain, the freckn sensor gets fooled and does not respond, even on the most sensitive setting.. I have to manually dial the sensor up/down , or move the wiper stick to wipe the darn windshield. The sensor is a complete JOKE.

I agree. I have also noticed that it is even worse at night. Seems that oncoming headlights will cause it to wipe or wipe faster.
To be honest I have never fooled with the sensitivity setting and I've read it doesn't make much difference any way?

I wonder if there's a sensor you can clean on it. Mine's not perfect, but ours works better than the auto wipers we've had in previous vehicles. I've found by adjusting the delay, which I assume adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor, I can usually dial it in for anything from moderate showers to intermittent misting.

The sensor it the one by the rearview mirror...ive. heard that they can lose their seal against the windshield. When this happens it will either not work or it will cause it to sweep randomly...

when i had my windshield replaced, they re-used the sensor and it didn't work at first. the gel/goo around it has to be just so.

I've noticed mine, in certain lighting conditions, doesn't respond well to rain. its sort of a bright overcast as the light starts to dim...early evening on a cloudy day.

Also, when it is really hot, and i drive out of the shade into the sun, the wipers will go once or twice sometimes.

Most of the time it works fine though.

QX56 windshield wipers are absolutely terrible

Ok.. It's snowing pretty hard here in DC today... and my stupid windshield wipers suck, absolutely suck!! I don't know why any manufacture would use the stupid sensor as a panacea instead of the tried and true intermittent wipers . Drive 90mins in this storm, and the wiper sensor NEVER works.. my windshield gets covered in snow and mist and the wipers just sit there.. I have to manually shift up/down or rotate the sensor knob to get the darn wipers to clear the windshield... I did this for 90 freckn minutes!!! ****SIGH****

I've had the dealer look at the darn sensor many times... slow accumulation of mist/rain/snow "trick" the sensor.

Ok... I've vented, but I'm still pissed as the sensor-wipers (and the voice navigation) are worst bit on the Beast... otherwise great truck.

Hmmm....thats one thing I can't complain about...lol

Mine seem to be over active sometimes...

How are they in a down pour?

in a down pour they work fine... they're just bloody awful in fine mist and snow

Well living down here in the southeast I haven't had the luxury of driving it in the snow but I wonder if it has anything to do with the slope of the windshield too. I use Rain X even though they say you shouldn't...so I don't have to use the wiper until it's steady...
