Vibrating gas pedal

I will add my experience to the list. I'm a new QX owner and mine does the same exact thing. I didn't notice it on the test drive but did before I got home. It acts the same all the time. Pulling out in traffic, passing someone, etc. Anytime in a mid-to-high RPM range it does it. At cruising speed it acts as it should.

My dealer is 90 miles away, so I can't just pop in. I'm going to call the service manager and get his opinion before doing anything else. I'm glad I found this thread.

Vibrating Gas Pedal

IRONSCOTT - you nailed it! Precisely the symptom as you described. See previous RONRETRO thread on Infiniti Consumer Affairs (ICA)... If you and others take a minute and complete the online form, you will at least get a reaction from them via a "Case Number" assigned to you, a follow-up call from ICA, and it will be one more registered complaint that should help all of us that have this issue.

I have found the local Infiniti Service Center - while actually ACKNOWLEDGING the 2011 and 2012 QX's have this problem - they won't do anything until a TSB from Infiniti comes out. That's why I am hammering ICA because it will be that source that will drive the TSB on this problem.

Thanks - RONRETRO

HOLY POOP guys....i have always noticed the same slight consistent vibration ..exactly as reported previously, happens normally in the lower gears around RPM's below 2500...i never realized that it was an issue till i read this and noticed that it was not a constant thing...NOW it's bothering me to NO END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never noticed the vibe's from the gas pedal until reading this tread about a month ago. I did a little checking and decided the reason for the vibration is due in part to the proximity of the exhaust system to the front floor pans and the gas pedal being mounted directly to the floor pan.

When we drive, our left foot is on a padded carpet absorbing any vibrations and the right foot is on the gas pedal which is a hard rubber coated piece of steel mounted to the floor pan.

Prior cable operated gas pedals were mounted to the firewall where the vibration is minimized by heavier steel and the many engine accessories bolted to them.

Just a thought.

Vibrating Gas Pedal

After pestering Inifiniti Consumer Affairs (since the "party line" at any local Infiniti Service Center seems to be "we can't fix this issue until we get a TSB from Infiniti" !!!!!), I have finally gotten movement on this matter. On Oct 10upcoming, a "Regional Infiniti Service Expert" is coming to my town and meeting me at the local Infiniti Service Center. This person will drive my QX 56 and assess the specific problem. What happens after that I do not know, but will share with this Forum.

Again, to be clear, Infiniti Consumer Affairs, on one of several phone calls to me, blatantly admitted this (vibrating gas pedal) is a "common problem" with 2011 and 2012 redesigned QX's, and they are working on a "fix". There is no TSB on this from Infiniti yet, and again, if you are having this issue, refer back to my earlier posts, and get online to ICA and register your complaint.
You WILL get a Case Number and emailed that acknowledgement, and you WILL get a phone call. The more numbers hit their desks, the more attention they will pay to resolve this irritating problem, on a very expensive luxury SUV.

Thanks - Ronretro

If I were you guys i'd give this a shot. The 'shudder' listed on the bottom might be what you feeling. I'll be seeing if this applies to my 2012 issue as I do get throttle hesitation in the mid range. As if the car should downshift to the next gear but instead pushes/shudders through the range.

Is this 8 page document available in PDF format somewhere? If you can email it to me somehow I'll make it available as a free download for everyone.

Thanks
Peter

That could very well be related. Thanks for posting that.

How hard is the gas pedal vibration? It must be hard and violent to feel the pedal vibrate through your shoe. I have tested my wife's 2012 QX going thru the same situations as described here; accelerating from a stop, accelerating up through 3500 RPM when passing, even in the driveway in neutral accelerating up thru 4,00 rpm. Either my size 11 is too heavy to feel any vibration or there is not a problem. I even did the testing barefoot with a light touch to the accelerator pedal. A very interesting and curious phenomenon.

ATC ive a 2012 with 22 inch wheels and all options. the q is my daily driver and ive had it since october last year. ive not seen this issue and i do 98% interstate/hwy driving. ooh and i have a size 11 foot :D

OK. My point exactly:rolleyes:

In my case it feels sort of like a buzzing cell phone. It's certainly not violent at all but definitely irritating. I wear that size shoe as well ;) I assure you it's very real. Just because it doesn't happen to everyone doesn't mean it's not happening.

Vibrating Gas Pedal

Yep, IronScott, it IS happening! While there may be a few lucky ones on thsi Forum that do not have this issue, there are many that have this annoyance! From my prior posts, you can see that Infiniti Consumer Affairs directly stated to me that this is a "common problem" with 2011 and 2012 redesigned QX's. You would THINK they would have a fix by now!

I am on my way today to leave my QX with the Regional Service Expert who is coming to town for my issue. Gonna make him drive it while I am in the car so he can see for himself!

Will update this Forum of what I gather from this round with Infiniti!

Thanks!

Ok, met the Regonal Infiniti Service Specialist from Florida at my local Infiniti Service Center in Greenville, SC around lunchtime today EST... Nice guy, been doing this stuff for a long time, wrote books on vehicle "harmonics", and right off he drew me a sketch to show me what this COMMON ISSUE is (his words) with most 11 and 12 QX 56's. He said it relates to the Exhaust Hangers and placement from the factory, the dampering of those, etc.

He drove my QX (with me in it!) and the first acceleration, he said, "oh yea, there it is"! He put it through the paces - stop and go - heavy interstate acceleration, etc. and noticed and felt it each time.

Aferwards he did say that he will be unable to get ALL the vibration out but a noticeable amount for certain. As a note, HE is the actual one who is going to work on it today and tomorrow, to ensure his knowledge of the matter is addressed.

I asked him about an overall Infiniti TSB; he told me it could take a looong time, if ever; it may be a case of reingeneering future models, which helps us none.

Will write tomorrow when I pick my QX up, what happened and if there is any relief from his work. At least I got a brand new G37 Sedan as a loaner today.

While my response was a bit tongue in cheek I was not doubting anyone has this problem/issue. I was actually curious as to what it felt like, if it was slight or a hard vibration. Your explanation as a cell phone buzzing answers my question. I still don't know if my QX has the problem or not. I will put it thru the paces again and see if I can feel a slight vibration. If the problem is in the exhaust hangers (as the another post states) it makes me wonder why some vehicles have the problem and others do not. That is what I meant by a curious phenomenon. Hopefully those with the problem will have it corrected.

well i removed my mufflers. i installed a magaflow muffler. i did this about a month or two after purchase. i know what a vibrating phone feels like and I do not notice this. i drive a steady speed. the highways i drive on (CA-110, the 5 SOCAL) are pretty much smooth so i SHOULD be able to pick up this issue.

if anyone who has a 11+ Q and is out in SOCAL who has this issue, perhaps it would be cool if we could meet up. id like to drive a Q that has this issue to see what the hype is all about....

jeeez..people its the drivetrain. Has anyone one of you with these vibrating issues went to the dealer and do a fully fluid flush ???

rear diff /front diff/ transfercase / trans ?

Should you have to do that the day you drive it off the lot?

WELL,after all the efforts by the "Regional Infiniti Service (supposed) Specialist", the attempt to fix the vibrating gas pedal issue DID NOT WORK! There IS NO FIX, per Infiniti (Local and Corporate)! They put dampers on the exhaust hangers, moved them somewhat, etc. - no luck!

The local Infiniti Service Manager is so apologetic that he can't fix this issue on my SUV. He has no other ideas, neither does Infiniti as a company! I plan to go back online and send Infiniti Consumer Affairs the result, and at least state my case again to them that JUST MAYBE they ought to work out a solution on behalf of the number of complaints they are getting.

RONRETRO - Thanks! If I hear of anything else, will update this Forum.
