Mine had the bouncing RPM's before the timing repair as well. The repair fixed it.

Had recall done this week

I have been having the Check Engine light come on for last 4 months - always with same code: P0300 - which is a random misfire.

For anyone else that has had problem, did you get this light and this code also?

Because the dealer has tried 3 things trying to fix it and run up $2k in bills - now they did the timing chain and everything is fine.

I feel like they owe me for the $2k of other work as they tried to fix the P0300 by trial and error - when it was the chain all along.

b-mo,

whats your year and mileage? did you purchase new or used? what interval was your oil changes performed?

do you have documentation of the oil changes performed?

Dropped off my '12 for the recall this morning. Will let you know the results in 3-4 days. Got a '16 QX80 as a loaner. I'm glad to see not much has changed...at least from the driver's seat. I can't even believe a fully loaded one passes $90k now. I hope the engine work gets mine another 100k miles...can't afford to replace her,

hmmmmmmm

I just rolled over 28 k miles. Its runs like a champ, but I am changing the oil in the 3k mile range. Switch to the new Pennzoil Platinum so I will be interested in the next oil analysis. I entered my vin number on Infinities web page, and mine is a recall candidate for a timing chain.
Hmmmm angst.

2012 QX56 Infiniti

I purchased my 2012 QX56 Infiniti in August 2015 with 44,000 miles. I had no problems initially with my vehicle and it drove nicely:). The past two months, I started to notice at start up that the engine idled really high and loud, but eventually leveled back down. I thought it was just due to a cold start up every morning. Eventually, my service engine soon light came on, but it didn't stay on after a day or so. I was changing my oil as regularly scheduled and the check engine soon light was never on at the time when I would take it to the dealer for an oil change. However, this past month, the service engine soon light came on and did not go off. I needed an oil change, so I decided to get it to the dealer (Plaza Infiniti) to check it out. To my surprise, the dealer checked my vin number and my vehicle was a part of the timing chain recall. The service representative told me that the letter was going to be sent out shortly, but to disregard it, because he needed to get me scheduled.

Plaza Infiniti had my car a little over 2 weeks as they had 12 other vehicles already scheduled for the timing chain replacement. Not only did I have the timing chain recall work performed, they detected and internal problem with my catalytic converter and ecu program. This was the reason my service engine soon light was coming on. They replaced the left hand side (driver side) manifold catalytic converter, the gaskets, the air/fuel ratio sensor, and reprogrammed the engine control module (ECM). They only replaced the left hand side because the code (p0420) was coming up only for the LH side. This all occurred just before my 60,000 mile inspection:D.

Needless to say, this was all covered under warranty and the recall and my QX56 is running so much better. I really can notice the difference in the acceleration and the start-up. I hope the right hand side catalytic converter does not go out anytime soon. I have a certified pre-owned vehicle with 2 years or 40,000 miles left on the warranty, but I'm not sure if the catalytic converters are covered past the 80,000 miles (emissions warranty). Does anyone know?

From what I understand, the Catalytic Converters are only warranted (manufacturer) to 80,000 miles.

asked for tires to be rotated. oil is due for change, hence why i took it in so they can replace it on their dime.. ;)

umm i didn't think about doing any other maintenance... i might give them a call and see what's recommended. thanks for the heads up!

got a wimpy qx60... cant complain as its free (thats all they had) :D

2-3 weeks... never been away from Fatz that long ever... :(

Thanks grillmaster. My service engine soon light came on yesterday. I took my vehicle to the dealer today and they ran the diagnosis. The right side catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I wish they would have replaced them both initially, but I'm thankful they caught this early. I'm currently at 61,000 miles. The parts are in stock, so hopefully I will riding back in my QX56 later today.

got fatz back today. some antifreeze droplets on the engine parts underneath.

anyway, had to reset the windows roll up/down (as battery was disconnected) and reset my clock..

but thus far all sounds well and runs well as prior. i was not having any issues so i didn't expect any night and day difference.

so far so good...

Timing Chain Repair Gone BAD!!!

My car (2011 QX56) started to shutter and RPM's went up and down...towed it immediately into the dealership (April 2016). BTW this car has always been at the dealership for ALL services since day 1. They said it was the timing chain and that it has worn a hole in the guide and so the oil was leaking out of the tray. The repair quote was high $6k cost. I didn't really have a choice and so we proceeded forward. Fast forward almost 2 weeks later (that is how long it took them to do this repair) I talked Infiniti Corporate into helping with the cost and then the day I picked up the car they said Infiniti released a recall and so the cost all but $1800 would be covered under the recall.

Fast forward another 3 weeks after I picked up the car and once again my car started acting up, it was a little different but still shuttering. The car was again towed into the dealership, they had it for 24 hours and came back with nothing other than maybe the battery cable was loose is all. I had a trip planned the next day and they said the car was fine and totally drivable. As you can guess the car wasn't fixed and not OK to drive, my car broke down on the trip and I got stranded out of state. My car as been out of town at another Infiniti dealership since Memorial Day.

Infiniti and also the dealership here in AZ won't take ANY responsibility in the repair. I am so jaded with both Infiniti and the local dealership. The out of state dealership has been great and has helped a ton but long story short the car needs a whole new engine now (metal in the engine), the cam has worn down, the lifter broke into several pieces, no lubrication and to make it even better bolts in the timing chain repair got installed backwards and the whole timing chain area rattles and makes terrible noises. Infiniti corp told me to stop calling them and local dealer says that none of this is their issue.

I am so sideways now I don't even know what to do. The repair is a $26,000 repair now (new engine) and nobody will step up to fix my car. The local dealership said this isn't their problem, they are saying the pump that the lifter couples is bad but the dealership out of state said it was great and not broken but now that the local dealer tore it apart they are saying it is broken. Luckily we have a video of a working pump a week ago and now today at the car's 3rd tear down the pump is broken, spring and rod loose. I don't even know where to start. Has anybody had troubles like this, any other pump issues with the lifter on the CAM? Am I just totally screwed? The local dealership was the last one in the timing chain cover and they offer a warranty on their work but nobody including Infiniti is willing to make good on that warranty or faulty work. I love my car but I hate what I am having to deal with. Oh and Infiniti has promised me they would pay for all these diagnosis both out of state where my car broke down and they have paid nothing and now are refusing to pay anything. Why is Infiniti treating a good customer so bad? Any help or advise would be welcomed.

sounds like you should call + write a letter to your state AG's consumer affairs department.

Soccermom- that stinks! Best of luck to you.

I just got the recall notice and I'm due for my 60k service. It looks like most of what's in the 60k service is done when they do the recall. Any idea of what I should expect to have done outside the recall? I'm hoping to substantially reduce the $1050 the local dealership charges at 60k. Thanks!

Wahooooooo
Got my notice today
Called dealership
They say they are 1-3mos out...high estimate
Glad I get this taken care of on Infiniti

Had been reading the timing chain thread for months and sweating/dreading this occurring on our '12.

Happy to have received the recall notice...dealer is booking only 2-3 per week. They are renting large SUV replacements from E'prise. Will be very happy when it's done in a few weeks.

Bought my beautiful 2011 QX56 in 2014 with 40,000 miles. Car has been flawless and I can't say enough how much I really love this car.

She has almost 73,000 miles on her now. And two weeks ago I received the timing chain recall notice from Infiniti. I hadn't heard of this and since I hadn't had any problems, was very surprised.

I called my local dealer immediately (this was on a Wednesday) and they got me an appointment for the following Monday. Said they would need the car 4-5 days.

I'm easy going so I accepted a sedan as a loaner (I don't drive my Q every day anyway so it didn't matter much to me).

I was very glad to get my Q back though. It actually took them 5 full days to complete the job. She runs wonderfully - just like she did before the recall fix.

I'm counting on getting a couple of hundred thousand miles out of her so I'm hoping this is the first step toward that longevity.

:)
