Timing chain recall 2011+ QX56

if I didn't post previously, Infiniti agreed to pay for the full repair I had made in 2014 under the service recall campaign.

Drop mine off tomarrow at Napleton Infiniti in Tallahassee, Fl. They made it sound as if they are backed up so either they are BSing me or ALOT of people are already dropping the Q off.

I just drop mine off today at the same place😁

I live in Panama City Beach so it's a pain in the a$$ when I have to take time off. I have brought in the beast a few times in past for sporadic/slow shifts so I'm hoping this helps??? Wish Napleton was more upscale, but I don't have too much to complain about with them. They always drive my Q back to me when it is done. I don't actually don't get the work done till 24th so let me know how your goes and if it makes differance. Did you have any noise? I don't notice mine at all.

Not really, the fan was really loud on start up and if I drive really slow with the a/ c on (strange), But other than that pretty quite.

I just dropped my Q off for an oil change and I was talking to the SA about the recall and he said he would check on mine. I told him I had it done 2 years ago and all was well but he said that they have updated parts they are using now and that they may open my Q up to update the parts. If you've already had it done, check with your dealer and see if you get the updated parts. An ounce of prevention.....

When do you get it back? Can you post any differance. I don't get truck back till next Friday, had to drop off early.

For those who go this done with the recall, any noticeable change???

I drop it off on Monday, don't know when I will get it back, they said they will call me when they are wrapping it up. I will posted if I noticed any differences once I get it back.

If you were noticing poor acceleration and a whining coming from the engine bay, then you've definitely noticed a difference after the repair.

If the timing chain has not loosened enough to start grinding on the oil jet, then there probably is no difference after the repair.

What happens is... The timing chain gets so much slack in it that the tensioners push the timing chain into the oil jet that sprays oil onto the timing chain. The variable timing is not allowed to adjust properly and you get the poor acceleration. The chain rubs on the jet which causes the whining noise.

I just pick up the "she hulk" (that's what my family calls her, because she is green) today, and I really didn't notice to much of a difference, other then my a/c is colder. The engine sounds about the same, and she drives just about the same as she did before. Total time of repair was about 3.5 days:). The only thing that sucks is that I have to take her back to the shop for something unrelated to the timing chain once they have the part in.

I have a QX56 built in 7/11 and I went to this site:
http://www.infinitiusa.com/recalls-vin#/
to check the VIN and it did not show anything. I did buy mine used in October 2015, and three months ago i had one of my CATs replaced, so i suspect that the timing chain had already been fixed so it doesnt show up in the VIN lookup.
I am curious if there is anyone else with a 2012 QX56 that has the recall and what your manufacture date is.
Thanks, Tom.

I had my timing chain fixed last year. I called Consumer Affairs for a reimbursement and received my check today. Kudos to Infiniti for stepping up and addressing this issue.

I do have a question after getting this done, I saw on the print out that Limited slip oil was replace/add part number 999MP-1XGPP0P, are the front diff fluid change as part of the timing chain recall for 4x4 QX56??????

Yes, the front differential had to be removed to get the oil pan off. A couple weeks after you get it back, check where the axles go into the diff case to make sure they didn't damage the seal when reinstalling the axles. If they're damaged, they'll leak.

Well I might have jump the gun there a little yesterday...lol:)

Things I noticed just this morning on my way to work:

1. Cold Start up noise is greatly reduce. (no more loud fan noise)
2. Acceleration feels great.
3. I noticed that the RPM's are not jumping as high as they were when I accelerate.

over all the engine sounds great and I can feel that it has more power.

Now let see if that translate to better gas millage :)

JRM, isn't the noise on start up just the fan? Also I have sporadic tach that jumps between 4/5th gear during slow, moderate acceleration. No issues when I accelerate hard though. Hopefully the recall helps, I have heard a very faint screeching noise at times when car is at idle but I'm almost sure it may have been my paranoia.

Sorry...but the bouncing rpms are due to the way the torque converter locks up...that's not going away...and the loud fan noise at start up is due to the electric fan clutch.

I don't have a timing chain failure but I will be have the dealership take some pictures of the parts so that I can see what the wear looks like. They have had my QX all week and just started on it today.
