Hi all -- you know how when you start the truck, it revs up and then falls back to idle? Well, mine occasionally revs up and falls back down too low and stalls. Start it up immediately afterward, and its fine. Has anyone had this happen and been told what the problem is?

Thanks
Chris

Nope....i haven't experienced that as of yet...does it happen every time? If so, definitely get it checked out...could be a dirty MAF sensor...

Pretty sure this is what happened to my 12 over the Christmas holidays. We were visiting family in Mississippi and it was a very warm, humid day and night before. Heavy dew on the vehicle. Fired right up then started bucking and jumping almost like it was flooded. I pushed the button to turn it off. Checked the oil and for any leaks. Fired it right up afterwards and made the 14 hour return trip to Michigan the following day with no issues. Has never happened prior or since that one time.
My father in law attributed it to the moisture. I have no explanations. I did go by the local Nissan dealer and have them check it out prior to our trip and they found nothing fwiw.

Would appreciate if anyone figures out what would cause this.

i'm taking it in on Tuesday for this and the squeaks i mentioned in the other thread...will update.

throttle body -- that's what the dealer is doing today.

SeaFoam

Have them use SeaFoam to clean it. Put a whole bottle in the tank and then another bottle when you fill it up.
How many miles you have? Its very good stuff. Keeps my old Lexus running like a champ.
Its like $9 at NAPA or O'reilleys auto parts. Its at the China-Mart too.
hope that helps

Anything you put in the tank does absolutely nothing on DIG engines...nothing touches the seat area of the valves. Just use a quality fuel...top tier and you will be fine...

So... is there really a big difference when using Gasoline from Exxon/Shell/BP vs. Royal farms, Wawa or these former Sunoco stations now calling themselves Market Place (or something like that)???

I thought all the Gasoline are the same.. other than a disc they throw into the tanker trucks as they fill up their tanks.

Base fuel is the same but the additive package is what makes the difference. The base fuel comes from the closes refinery. That's what makes them top tier...the additive package. I have always used top tier fuel...i have seen personally some nightmares from some off brand fuels...even my barley moved 94 Legend gets top tier premium... :D

Shocked to see Costco listed as a Top Tier Gas provider.... I'm a member, but I only pay with cash (as Costco only accepts AMEX and does not accept Visa/MC), I have an issue with use Amex , since they dicked me during the financial crush of 2008/2009.. reducing my credit limit from $30k down to $1k ... can u believe that bullcrap?! I was spending $6k-$7k per month on Amex for over 5 years and paying off that bill in full every single month, and they say, "we've reduced your credit limit" because of something I could not remember. .... I still have almost 450,000 points sitting in that account! Surprised they didn't whip that off.

Gasoline

Hey Rsanders24, You have always giver great advice on here and I appreciate the 'Top-Tier' Gasoline information.
I am glad to see that chevron is top-tier, I have a local one I use, sparingly , because there is ethanol in it. Does the QX have a combination of Direct Injection and multi-port injection ?
My 06 Is350 has both types of fuel injection, supposedly. They say it has a active recall for carbon build up. Which I would suspect that it would occur on the Intake valves, like you said can happen.
I have not had it in for the recall :
a) I don't trust them working on it
b) it runs as well if not better than the day we picked it up in March of 06.
It idles so smooth. 48k miles. I kinda credited the seafoam for that, but now, it maybe the Chevron gas ?

Don't hold it against me if I say I use 'Seafoam' in it. Makes me feel better.:D
I had used seafoam to clean an older throttle body injection on a 96 Dodge Ram. Worked really good. (white smoke you wouldn't believe)
I didn't know that it didn't help direct injection on intake valves.
I do have a 'Pure' brand gas station that only sells non ethanol gasoline. I use it a lot and run it all the time in my Triumph motorcycle. But I see it's not in the top tier list. :(

I am going to have to re-think all this now. Surprised about Valero on the top-tier list and not Marathon.

Sheetz, Pilot, and Loves not listed. ( Pilot & Loves are truck stops) They have good diesel fuel.
Thanks
Parrott

Valero just made to the top tier list...no unfortunately the QX does not both direct and port injection...I have a 08 GS 350 and at 63k it still runs like a champ...I know the 06 GS 300 and the IS 250 had carbon buildup issues but I haven't heard of the 350's having that issue. I've had all the recall and engine TSB's done...valve spring, VVT gear actuator...I still have to do the one for the fuel pressure regulator gasket. The purpose for the addition of the port was to help wash the seats of the intake valves. Since most DIG engines don't have both the seats of the intake valves never see any fuel to clean the carbon off. So anything you put in the tank will not do anything to help with carbon buildup. Now feeding into the intake is better but with some DIG engines have what they call dry intake manifolds...which means they aren't designed for liquid to pass through them and if you push liquid through it you risk the chance of hydrolocking a cylinder if it pools in the bottom of the intake manifold. Using additives in the tank don't hurt but they just don't help either...on DIG engines....now the Lexus id different because it. does help do to the fact that is has both direct and port...

back to the OP, throttle body cleaned and car is starting, running better

had throttle body cleaning done on my last service. definite improvement.

keep it top tier petrol and dont waste money on snake oil fuel additives. Chevron always! ;)

Yep, you are right, Rsanders24. I thought the IS 350 was on that carbon recall ( there are so many). That was one that didn't include the IS350.(Miracle)
I went through my folder and lo and behold it wasn't there. I guess I adopted it over the years and figured I'd have it done sometime, LOL. Glad I didn't call them and look like a fool. Better to look like a fool on the al-gore amazing internet. at least I can go hide.

Yes I agree Marc, More chevron ! 93 is the best I can get around here. At least its affordable again ! Like its on sale all the time, LOL

Thanks guys

I know what you mean Dread Parrot...but even. with those recalls I never had any issues with my car...the only thing I had replaced under warranty in the 6 years I've owned in are the battery and the rubber trunk switch because it got sticky...its been worry free and very reliable. I've already had multiple issues with both of my Infiniti vehicles...hopefully that trend turns around because they are more fun to drive than the GS...
