QX56 Loves & No loves...

Qx56 vs qx80

So, enjoying this thread a lot. Was hoping I would find something like this.

***IMPORTANT MESSAGE FIRST *** anyone going from the "old style QX56" to a newer QX56 or QX80 MUST be mindful when they open their tailgate in their garage for the first time. I know have a nice deep gouge in the upper tailgate molding from the garage door opener metal something or another that it hit on the way up. Just saying BE CAREFUL!!! I can buy a new molding for $950, or repair for $280. Expensive lesson to learn

Anyway, loving my new QX80, but also do miss my 2008 QX56.

What I Like:

Interior is like night and day versus QX56
ventilated seats

Better acceleration

no side chrome

not having a video screen in the way of my view out the rear window

bluetooth streaming (when it works)

Infiniti Connection nice to have

Seat back pockets are nice addition (because,,,,[see first dislike])

adaptive headlights

remote start

expansive views

tip down side view mirrors

What I dislike:

DISSSMALLLL small storage space(s) versus the older generation for such a large vehicle

steering is even lighter than the 08 QX.

DOOOOOOR LOCKKKKKKKSSSSSS (U GET LOCKED IN)

where did my compass in the mirror go

why can't a digit speedo be included in the center instrumt panel LCD display

rear camera doesnt seem to be as clear or helpful as previous

side cams CANT SEE IN DARKNESS

wish it still had intermitt wiper option

Bluetooth streaming seems to work ONLY IF i TURN OFF, THEN ON, THE IPHONE BT

The LDP, DCA, BSW/I seem to default to off and must be turned on each time you start vehicle

Seems voice activated telephone more "needy" than previous QX. Takes longer to place call, even with the optional alternative voice control (eg. more menus)

Small side door storage space

nav voice doesnt decrease stereo volume anymore when giving directions

warning beeps are not very loud

Okay, there are more pluses and minuses but thats plenty for now. Yes, I realize that once I read the manual for the THIRD time, that maybe I will find that I am doing some things wrong, but for now, that is my list.

And I forgot to mention that there should still be an option to automatically decrease stereo volume when receiving audio voice guidance.

OHHHH, and beware,,,if u, for some reason, decide to delete your phone temporarily from the Bluetooth, watch out because all of your "quick dial" entries that might've taken you 90 minutes to program with voice tags, GONNNNNNE. NO WARNING, just gone. FYI.

you are not deleting it. it is paused. look in your history and you will see the destinations you have created.

also, when you "pause it" and if its the last destination you entered, it will be there if you "resumed" it again--even days later (again if it was your last destination)

Is there a word limit on posts. I've written a post (lengthy) twice and both times it has failed to post???

at least 10 characters but it can be pretty lengthy.

if in doubt, copy your post to your clipboard before hitting send next time.. ;)

ive written lengthy posts in the past only to have them lost in cyberspace due to a site issue, time out, etc.

Okay, I'm gonna type this for the third time.

Traded in my (awesome, but out of warranty) 2008 QX56 for a 2014 fully loaded plat/wheat QX80. Got 21k for trade (94000 m) and the new vehicle for about 72500. Also bout extended warranty 5y/100k for 1700 and, in a moment of weakness, the auto armor for 1000.

First, let me say I truly miss my 56 and see that it had some nice things that the newer version doesn't have (rear opening windows, lots of small storage, glass rear opening, etc) but love the new one too for its styling.

Anyway, here's my list of likes and dislikes for the third time, but in perspective of comparison to older model.

Likes:

Plush interior

Increased hp and acceleration

Expansive (expensive) views

Solid THUD

22 inch wheels

Wood steering wheel

No more rear view blocking monitor

Better stereo

Smoother ride

Around view cams

Weather info

Bluetooth streaming (awesome)

Multi source videos

Remote start

SOS button

Ventilated seats

Welcome lights

Bsi/ LDI (must have with lite steering and so many toys)

120 v outlet

Third row can recline

New car smell

Soooo quiet from outside noise

Best bang for buck

Infiniti service with loaner

Dislikes:

Decreased sonar range

Too quiet alerts

Bench no longer folds completely flat

Dismal small storage for large vehicle

Fisheye rear cam vs flat

Can't open third row rear windows

"Seems" more cumbersome voice recogn

Worse apparent camera resolution

No side cams night vision

Third row peeps have zero climate control access

Steering superrrrrr light

Can only reset remote start once

Okay, enough for now.

Ps: for those with low garage, tailgate opens VERRRY high. My choice was new molding for 950$ or repair 280$. That was easy. :-(

Update:

Still enjoying vehicle as a whole, but really wish cameras had slightly better resolution than they do. I would just suck it up except for the fact that my 2008 QX actually had BETTER rear camera than the 2014?! It's bizarre. And, with this incredibly cold winter, would've been nice if remote start kept car on for 20 minutes per start versus ten.

Anyway, an absolute joy to drive. Still look back at it as I walk into work and smile. I don't know how anyway ever thought these trucks had poor aesthetics. Seriously?
