That's weird as in AUTO mode if I turn the fogs on, it turns all my lights ON. If I leave it in AUTO and fogs OFF, then it acts as usual in AUTO and turns on (no fogs tho) all lights when it gets dark.

That is how mine works as well. If you put the fog lights on it will run the headlights during the daytime. They will also function at night as well.
What really bugs me is I keep mine in auto with fogs on all of the time. When I go to the dealer they always turn the headlights off.
Our dash lights work regardless if headlights are on or off giving the appearance the headlights/tail lights are working when they aren't.

I just purchased my wife an 08 qx56 and we are use to owning bmw's. My bmw has led pretty much everywhere. I want to convert all the lights to led where I can, but im use to having to get special can bus can bus leds so that the bulb out indicators work on the bmw. Does the infiniti use these?

for the 2008 model year. you dont necessarily need can bus leds. so yes, you can use conventional leds. the can system wont alert you to non can bus'sed lamps.

QX56 Fog Lights
Hi guys,
I had something fly up from the car in front of me on the highway and hit my bumper right in the area of the fog lamp and sensor.
The fog light stopped working. I believe the bulb is fried. I have the Infinity replacement part number, but was wondering if anyone has replaced the bulbs with anything brighter.. HID ???
Were you able to replace the bulb only, vs changing the housing ?

the fog lamp housing (chrome piece) is super easy to replace if its damaged.
I had HIDs in the fog lamp housing for a while, but HIDs produce so much heat in that small section that i opted to swap to LEDs as they are cooler and simpler in terms of maintenance.
so yes, people have replaced the lamps in the fog housing (and every where else actually, refer to this thread) with both LEDs and HIDs.
at the very least i recommend LEDs.
I had HIDs in the fog lamp housing for a while, but HIDs produce so much heat in that small section that i opted to swap to LEDs as they are cooler and simpler in terms of maintenance.

Update on my hid fogs. One stopped working all together. sucks.
Replaced them with an h8 led that matches the headlamp color but essentially is for looks. NO usable light coming out of it at all. http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/H8-15x2323LED.W.H8-15-x-2323-LED-White
I would be interested to know what others have used to replace the stock fog lamps with. I'm still considering going back to the HID's.

LEDS now a days are just as bright as HIDS. look at the Audi daytime leds or any other blinged out car for reference.
the LEDs i use in the fog housing are bright enough to be useful. they are 2012 model LEDs so they are a bit behind, but now the current version LEDs are really bright.
LEDs have caught up to HIDs somewhat and i would rather have an LED system that has less heat output (more efficient in light output) and less parts to connect than to worry about two ballasts, ignitors, and a rats nest of wires, but.. YMMV

I disagree Marc to an extent. While the newer LED's are certainly too bright to look at when facing them the amount of projected light is minimal at best. They make for perfect daytime running lights but offer very little usable light for driving when behind the wheel as compared to HID's. Nothing I have seen to date is even close to them.
Mind you I have all led's in my truck save for the HID's in the lo beams and fogs. Looks great for appearance purposes but for the functional lights used in driving the HID's are in a league of their own. I have had zero issues with the four HID lights I have in my truck and they have been in there going on 3 years. I think the issue with the QX fog lights is a ballast issue and it not getting enough power to cycle them on appropriately.
I can't wait for the Detroit Auto Show in a few weeks so I can check out the new QX80. Thinking seriously about trading up to a 2015.

I agree...I just had a new TLX with the LED headlight as a loaner car when I had my Acura in the shop and while they were nice and bright looking at the car they didn't seem to have the light output I expected on the road. I thought they were lacking especially on very dark roads.
I actually got to test drive the 2015 QX80 this past week with everything but the Limited Package...it was nice but to me the LED headlight leave a little more to be desired still. It is truly a beautiful vehicle but I would have to get it with the Limited package simply because I love the Ash wood trim...the silver is beautiful in my M...but I don't like that they took the wood trim wheel out of the Limited Package.
But I'm a few years away....kids have to get a little older so I can keep it clean....lol

The rear trim cover on the lift gate must be removed, and even with the right tools can still crack! The fog light bulbs were replaced with H11 Philips X-treme Ultinon LED Bulbs, they are expensive, but they make a world of difference!!!

Using a panel removal tool or small flat screwdriver you can pop the side of the cover away from the push button down. It will slide on a couple of arms that hold it in place. Carefully work it free by flexing the tabs so the lens falls into your hand. Piece of cake.

Just picked up a 2011 QX56
I have changed all the main interior lights to white LED
I am having issues with the rear passangers though
What is the easy to get that light replaced?
Do I need to pull out the whole assembly with the airvents?
If so...who
I started and it did not seem to easy to pull out

No you can remove just the lens on both the door and the cab lights by the vents. You will see the bulb in there to replace. Super easy and fast. I used a small bladed screwdriver on all of mine behind a shop towel so it didn't mar anything up.

I happen to have a lot of leds from buying way too much from ebay. It is not a secret where I got my leds. All bought from ebay. All ordered from China. They are very bright. I am willing to sell as many as I can so I do not have a lot just sitting around.
I just sold a set to a 2017 Armada owner and he is satisfied.
If I sell to you, all I ask is please install it as I recommend. If you are not satisfied within 3 days of install, be kind enough to take it off and kindly mail it back to me. I will refund your money.
