2011 QX56

When streaming music from my son's ipad via Bluetooth, I sometimes (20-30% of the time) get really "skippy" and choppy (unlistenable) playback. Also, the ipad will sometimes randomly disconnect and then try to reconnect for a long time with no success. I have to turn the truck off and back on and re-pair the device for it to reconnect successfully.

This happens regardless of where the ipad is located (front seat/back seat/ glove box)

It is an ipad 4th generation (first one with the small connector on the bottom)

The OS on the ipad is fully updated. The ipad pairs perfectly via Bluetooth to speakers and wireless headsets.

All other Bluetooth functions on the truck (paired with two cell phones) work perfectly.

Does this seem like just a quirky Bluetooth/Ipad/Infinity issue that's just bound to happen and I just have to live with it?

OR... is there some sort of legitimate Bluetooth music streaming issue floating around out there that can be fixed by the dealer?

Thanks in advance...

the same bluetooth stack (BT driver) thats in the ipad is the same thats in the same model of the iphone and ipod.

the issue is the BT stack in the ipad is not fully compatible with the bluetooth protocol Nissan uses in their cars.

sometimes nissan offers updates on the firmware in their HUs, but this is rare. its easier for apple (or any other manufacturer of BT products) to just incorporate the BT stack for host applications (such as the HU in the nissan/infiniti) and this normally happens.

let me ask, do you have a phone that is paired with the car?

you can have several devices paired with the car, and you can have a phone AND a streaming audio device (like an ipad in your case) connected at the same time, but you can only have one of the devices act as a media player.

example: your phone can be set up for JUST phone calls only and your ipad can be set up as a media player (A2DP). if the car sees your phone as BOTH for calls AND for audio streaming PLUS you want to connect to your ipad and try and stream, the HU will give you issues.

so if you have a phone paired to your car and it is also setup as a media player, unpair it and JUST use the ipad. see if that makes a difference.

if it doesnt, its more likely the BT stack in the HU and the ipad are not fully compatible. head over to nissans BT compatibility page on tier website to see if they list the ipad as being fully compliant.

apologies for the long winded response.. :o

Terrific response and tips.. Thanks for the insight!

I will re-pair my two phones just in case, but I am 99% sure they are connected as phones and not as audio devices. The setup wizard asks what the device will be used for, but I might have hit the wrong response key....

If a call comes in while playing music from the ipad, the system stops the music playback and the phone call takes over. When I hang up, the music comes back on from the ipad from where it left off. Truly a neat system and it works well most of the time.

Yesterday I also reset the ipad, and re-paired it to the car. So far no issues but it's only been used for a few minutes.

I'll chime in over the next week or so with an update...

---

Update: So a few weeks have gone by after resetting & re-pairing everything. While streaming music from my Ipad to the car stereo via Bluetooth the system has hiccupped a couple times and disconnected once (it will not re-connect to the device until I restart the truck and the radio "re-boots"). Overall though, it works fine 80-90 percent of the time, so I'm chucking this in the "live with it no biggie" file.

Can't imagine a tech being able to reproduce this problem on the spot, much less find a fix, if there is any to be found.

Again, thanks!

I have a 2011 QX56 and was unaware I could connect my iPhone via Bluetooth and play music without physically connecting the iPod. Is this true? I've tried to connect it via Bluetooth but was not successful. Does anyone have instructions on how to do this?

you mention ipod and iphone. which one?

just put the radio in pair mode and let your phone/ipod search for the HU. should say QX56. then connect. "1234" should be the code. the HU will tell you the code.

You can try to use any adapter that has both the functions of car audio and bluetooth adapter

Consider car audio/bluetooth adapter AUX Link

the OP posts that after a while he stopped using it. then he went back to using it and after updating the software , he can no longer control the ifruit from the touch screen. so perhaps the new update from cydia broke this?

also his ifruit device was jailbroken.

I HAD THIS SETUP RUNNING BACK WHEN I BARELY BOUGHT MY QX LIKE 2 YEARS AGO I QUIT USING IT 4 A WHILE AND WHEN I WENT BACK TO USE IT THE NEW UPDATE JUST WOULDNT LET ME HAVE THE TOUCH FUNCTIONS ANYMORE SO I JUST STOPPED USING IT DONT HAVE IT ANYMORE

Guys, just wanted to share my personal experience. Eventually decided to buy adapter for cars AUX Link. Compared all the prices and it's really much cheaper to purchase it at the official website AUX Car Kits. The delivery took just five days. At first I tried to install it myself, but had troubles extracting the car stereo. So in the end I had it installed in the nearest auto workshop. It took just 15 minutes. So far totally contempted with the purchase.

Advantages:

- great sound
- you can use it as a charger
- with Bluetooth dongle works perfectly as a car hands-free kit
- music control with steering wheel buttons and buttons on the car head unit (really convenient)
- read all music formats
- compatible with my Apple gadgets, but there is also a plug for other mobile devices
- free and fast delivery
- occupies very little space and almost invisible
- now I can listen to all my favourite compositions without carrying piles of CDs.

Disadvantages:

- a bit expensive as I also ordered additional Bluetooth dongle
- could't easily extract the car stereo so had to go to service center

But taking everything into account, I believe it's a good price-quality ratio. So from my point of view it's worth it.
