Timing chain recall 2011+ QX56

Came into the dealership this morning (May 6, 2016) for a routine oil change. Service Advisor informed me of a very newly issued recall for a new timing chain on our 2011 QX56 with 40,122 miles. Wow, was I surprised. I wasn't experiencing any issues and all servicing performed at the dealer.

called my dealer (Pepe in White Plains NY)... They said it came out yesterday and that it's tied to your VIN (so you need to talk to your dealer to know if you are eligible). Taking mine in on Monday. What a relief as I'm at 90k and the car sputters under soft acceleration (even with new fuel pump, etc) and sounds like crap when it starts on colder days which makes me think my car's days are numbered till this blows up.

Yes I'm eligeable. When service advisor pulled up my vehicles records for the oil change, the recall was attached automatically. This is a welcome blessing for many. I have an appointment next Wednesday.

Wondering for those folks who paid to have this done outside of warranty would those funds be reimburseable.
 
i probably wouldn't hold my breath but that would be nice.

this recall gives me more confidence to fight the urge to sell the car when my warranty expires, as they seem to be pretty reliable otherwise.

My 12 is marked for recall. I paid for 1/2 in 2014 and got assistance for the other half. Hopefully I can get the rest of my money back.

Just did the cats last week ($5k), which I believe were fouled from the timing chain.
 
mine is in the shop now, will report back exactly what they fix. said it would take a few days.
 
I have an appointment scheduled for this Monday coming up. Being that I'm at 86k, does anyone have any suggestions on anything that should be done while it's torn down?

Let them check the CATS if it hasn't been replaced yet.

I was under the impression when one brings their vehicle into a dealership for service, there is a multi-point inspection performed. Which would include checking to see if the vehicle is or has been throwing an OBD2 'code'. I am not aware of any other method to check the CATs for malfunction.

I have an appointment for this recall on Wednesday May 11, 2016 and will ensure they check for any OBD2 codes before and after the recall repair.

DON'T TRUST the dealer to do or check everything at even 80% unless your dad or mom own the dealership and your brother is the service tech.
Don't get me wrong,there are some exceptionally great service at some dealerships but personally,this rule has saved me a lot of stress,anxiety,losing half of my hair(not much left anyways),money,going insane and above all else,the 'wife b1tching' mode(I love her though).

What would you suggest, in order to have the CATs checked? What method? Other than having the dealer document on the work order checked for ODB2 codes and none found!

Looks like this thread is turning into a cat converter topic!

My dealer called me earlier today to inform me of the recall campaign. I had my timing chains done a month ago to the tune of $3600 and I'm so happy I'll be getting that back. Called Infiniti consumer affairs and submitted the proof of ownership / repair order, and should be seeing a check in several weeks.

My timing chain issues showed up at 85K and my dealership basically told me that if I had NOT performed my oil changes regularly (every 4K), this issue would have popped up under warranty. So thanks to Infiniti for stepping up on this, but it should have been done a lot sooner.

Wow, that's so high for the cats, your dealership is ripping you off. I have two dealerships in town, one quoted a little under 5K, the other 3.5K for the cat replacement

You will definitely be reimbursed for the second half of your timing chain payout! They'll need proof of ownership (ie. insurance card), invoice of work, and proof of payment. I asked - "Isn't a dealer invoice proof of payment?", and she said yes, but didn't seem sure of herself. I can't imagine that not being acceptable though.

I had one cat replaced under warranty already...hopefully the other one goes before my extended warranty runs out.

I'm just glad Infiniti finally stepped up and did the right thing. There were some who tried to blow this issue off but it needed to be addressed. If they didn't I wasn't going to even consider a new one. I'd most likely go to my #2 choice which was the LX. Kudos to Infiniti for issuing this recall.
 
Wow, this is great news for many on this site. I will be making a call to the dealer sometime next week. I got the car preowned and not sure if the timing chain has been done already. The vehicle is also still under warranty through Carmax's Maxcare so I wonder what can be done.
IIRC aren't the catalytic converter problems a lot of us have due to issues with the timing chain. If so, I wonder if a recall will be issued on the cats.

i asked my dealer about checking the Cats when i brought it in, they basically said it would be throwing a code if there was a problem, which means they have an "if it ain't totally broke don't fix it" attitude, which i guess isn't a surprise.

they did find i had seized pins in my brakes, which explains my weird pedal travel, so that was nice of them.

I learned from my dealership, they do not hook up the vehicle to their computer scanner as part of their multi-point inspection, unless they saw a code on the dash. Service Advisor stated they do have to reprogram the ECM and would ask them to perform a scan to check the CATs. I also asked for that scan printout if it exists.

CBK, did you get your vehicle back yet? How's it running?
 
yeah that's basically what they told me. we'll see.

no, not back, hopefully tonight or tomorrow. i really hope this fixes the stuttering and RPM bouncing that has been happening roughly in line with the nasty sounding noises it makes on starts especially in cold weather.
 
Just had my timing chain done on my 2012. 5,000 out of warranty and I applied for assistance with Infiniti USA who covered the entire repair. It won't throw any OBD codes, just a horrendous sound at startup that goes away and gets worse and worse. Vehicle has been prefect otherwise.
