[2011+] QX56 new motor, timing chains, etc

OCI at ~4k. In Minnesota. first started hearing whining noise when it was in the 70s during late march heat wave. heard whine maybe 4x before problem appeared (stumbling, rough idle)

That's sad that they won't at least goodwill the repair...or at least a portion of it...

I've seen a few references to this in this thread...did you guys who had these problems have your car develop a stutter/hesitation on gentle acceleration at low RPMs (e.g., 1250-1500)?

yes. the car would nearly stall. retarded ignition. misfires. SES light with intermittent miss code a week or two before

ugh. i've got some stuttering (the dealer couldn't reproduce...) but no lights/codes yet.

I just realized my Acura TL takes the same oil filter the QX uses. Do you think it's under filtered? It sure seems like a small filter for a 5.6l.

Under filtered and the sump should have been bigger...my GS 350 has a larger sump then the QX...

Is there any information on when Infiniti starting using the updated parts on vehicles sold? I just traded in my 2012 QX56 and got a new left over 2014 QX80. I could not find any definitive information.

i posted awhile ago about a noise. Turns out it was the beginning of the fuel pump dying. Sounded a lot like the timing belt noises people have posted recordings of.

how much did they give you on the trade-in (if you don't mind sharing) and how much did u pay for the QX80 (if you don't mind sharing)

Don't mind at all. I got a new 2014 QX80, no options (except stainless rear bummer protector) for 56500. Invoice was 62422, MSRP 67070. Trade in was 44k on my 2012 QX56 with 42k miles. (KBB indicated I should get around 42 - 44, Edmunds was even lower than that.)

WOW.. they gave you that much!! Impressive, and great negotiations on your part.

To be honest, I was trying to get even more for my trade than their original offer of 44k, but they wouldn't budge at all...(I tried every trick in the book, as I knew they would try to sell it for 49k+) So I just kept working on the sales price of the new QX80. They originally started at 59988, and then got them down to 58k, and eventually they accepted $56500. (It was the last day of the month, and I think that really made the difference. I am sure they were getting tired of me, since we started the negotiations a week earlier.)

filter applications

Now that is something, ' an Acura'. You'll like this: That filter also fits my 2012 Triumph GT. I can put a K&N or Mobile one or Hastings or 'Triumph' filter on either ! I don't buy the Nissan filter, its made in 'Chiner'.
LOL

Pretty Wild !
Have a good one

( I have 19,958 miles now) Its about wore out :D

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. im looking to get a QX56 soon and will be trading my 2004 Ford Eddie Bauer with 70,000 for the QX. I have only owned one Infiniti in the past an that was a J30. I loved that car. I will not be driving the QX everyday. My everyday drive is a 2007 GS350. From reading the forum it kinda scares me to buy a QX but after reading all the comments on the timing chain etc. From what I'm hearing everyone love the QX but when I buy the QX, make sure a get a warranty.

I would recommend that you get the service records from a dealership and check them over.

I would get an extended warranty but only if it's an Infiniti Elite...which are expensive. If you have to go 3rd party be very careful and read the entire contract.

Agreed. When I bought my first QX56, I called the dealerships on each of them trying to get an idea of the service history. Maybe you will find one that had the premium pre-purchased service where they did everything every 3750 and all of the big jobs at 15/30/45, etc.

What I am trying to track down is some info on when the updated timing chain parts where installed and included on new vehicles sold.

QX

Personally, the QX56 makes you like it while driving. It is very quiet. It will absolutely roll on down the highway too ! There is always a gear that fits the speed you are going and situation you are in. It will motor away from 'packs of stupidity' very easily. (Packs of stupidity) is what I call groups of cars running together on the Interstate highway causing chaos.

Mine is a 2011. I like that it is built on a 'Real' frame, and was a major selling point for me. I still think that 5.6 would pull a house off its foundation if you let it. I had an old Nissan truck, back in the 80's and it ran flawlessly, so I wasn't worried about the QX,
No issues with mine, but it has just at 20k miles. I think an extended warranty makes good sense with all 'used' automobiles today.

My QX56, I wouldn't take a wooden nickel for it :D
Hope that helps,
Have a good one !

Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely make sure i get service records and a good warranty. I'm looking for white, silver or gray with all the options and captain chairs second row. I too love the QX new look

my 2012 is my daily driver. LA driving. 44K on the clock. purchased brand new. had two armadas prior to this. nissan fan boy forever. i know so much about the armada/qx i can build one.

as ive said in this thread, squeaky wheel gets the grease. only people with issues post up on a forum, not people who have no issues, so it can seem like something is wide spread when in fact it may not be.
