Won't accelerate in drive?

My family an I where driving down freeway and gas pedal stopped working tonight. We limped the car into a parking lot and turned it off let it sit for few mins an tried it again nothing but in park car would rev like normal an same in neutral but not drive? less than two miles from home decided to try an crawl home at an idle speed slowly. Mile an half down road car died like battery was dead an wouldn't start. Wife two dogs an my 7 yr old son in car I pushed it home. Someone please help

sorry you had this happen.
what year and model car? did you purchase is used or have you had it since its birth? has it been in the shop recently for anything? any modifications on the engine or electrical components in the car?
did it give you any warning signs before? slow to start, "dieseling" or misfiring?
did the check engine lamp come on?
you need to try and pull codes from the obd port. what you are describing is very generic and there is no magic bullet answer unless we have more info.

I've had check engine light come on an go away the code ran oxygen sensor. But that went away like month ago. 10 infinity qx56 bought used at 190k I've done plugs wires belts hoses battery all fluids U joints no mods it sounded like a sputter but then caught up with rpms n was fine like if I haven't ran it in two days kinda sluggish, but wife lost all acceleration like the cable snaps on sum cars and was dead like battery n all, today started up after I put an old battery that's been sitting six months in it. Like I think I'm going crazy an it's our main vehicle to n from my son's school

so it may be a cat issue. leaking cat , faulty o2 sensor. dirty maf, bad ground straps, wiring. id visibly check your work also since you say you replaced some items. ive seen people mention something went wrong on their car, only to find out it was something did didnt put back on correctly or missed something. not saying this is your case, but worth the time to check.

you may also want to disable the voltage sensor on the negative battery terminal. this will allow your alternator to charge at the max output. there is a thread on doing this process if you have not already done it.
