when to change air filter element & in cabin filter element?

Yeah, changing the air filters is a in-exact science. I was going to change the engine air filter, a week or two ago, and it looked brand new. I held it up to the sun and I couldn't see any large particulates. I have seen dirty air filters and mine did not meet the criteria. but it was two years old.
It all depends on the area where you are at. You live on a dirt road, you maybe changing every year.
A lot of pollen in your area in the spring, you maybe changing the cabin filter every year. Its not really a you drive X-miles, you change filter hard rule.
If fan-air flow into the cabin seems low unless you are on high fan-speed it may need replacing, just have to check.
Not much of an answer, I know, but I do know if you live on a dirt road, you will be changing it quite often
Take the filters out and look at them. If the cabin filter is hard to get at, then just replace it,

I just changed mine on my own. I am at 47000 kms and the dealer wanted $1500 to do the 46,000 km service (which included cabin and engine filters).
So I purchased both from the parts dept for $100 and changed them myself. Both looked dirty, but the cabin filter was really really filthy and clearly could have been changed 10,000 kms ago.
The engine filter change is super easy, like 2 mins tops. The cabin filter was a little longer only because I wanted to ensure I didn't break any of the clips off when taking off the glove box assembly.
For me, I will likely change the cabin filter every year and the engine filter every 6 months. I live in dusty and dirty conditions up here (basically severe duty) since it's easy to change its a no brainer.

yeah cheap insurance. there is a schedule in the maintenance booklet, but i change mine on my own feeling. the air filter gets changed every year and the cabin 8-10 months.
