We purchased an 08 QX56 a few months ago and i thought i would share my thoughts about this purchase.
The past four vehicles we have owned are:
07 LTZ Suburban 2wd
05 Denali (short one)
05 Lincoln Navigator Ultimate
07 Ford Expedition EL Eddie Bauer 2wd
As you can see we have many to compare this infiniti to. We could not be happier with this vehicle. I have read about every review and comparo done on the QX56 that is out there. Is it just me or do they seem to get the short end of the stick? From reading these comparisons and reviews you would think the Infiniti is a lesser vehicle. I have driven almost every vehicle in it's class and there is no comparison IMHO. There is not one category in which any of these vehicles outperform our Infiniti!! The reason we have gone through so many vehicles in the past few years is none of them really stuck out and wowed us. Well, the Infiniti has done that for us and we will be keeping this one for sure!!
Funny thing is, the Infiniti has higher miles (115K) than any of the ones listed above and it feels like the newest.
We live in Kansas and in the last 3 weeks put over 2000 miles on it. 600 of those miles were pulling our 20ft boat loaded to the top to Beaver Lake. We have four kids and I was shocked at how well it pulled the boat and how comfortable we were in the vehicle. The only one that comes close on the towing would be the Expedition. It had the new 6sp tranny and it did well pulling the boat too. The Lincoln and the Suburban weren't so good and i didn't keep the Denali long enough to tow with it but i bet it would have been good too. It wouldn't have gotten the same mileage though. Loaded to the hilt and pulling through the hills i still managed to squeek out 12mpg in the QX56.
After Beaver we headed to Colorado over the 4th, not pulling the boat this time, and averaged 16.5 driving 75-80 mph.
I can honestly say that the more i drive this vehicle the more i like it. I just hope that in a few years i can still find a 2010 in good shape because i can't convince my wife to like the new body style. I love it but she hasn't come around yet. Hopefully when the time comes i can convince her!! It's gonna be a 2010 or nothing then, because i will buy another for sure
Sorry for the long post, i just wanted to share a very postive experience with one of these vehicles. It would be cool to hear from others who have compared these in the real world to others in it's class. I would think that real world comparisons would be more in line with our experience.
