I have a 2006 QX and have made numerous tows with it, including a near 2000mile tow across the country almost as soon as I bought it. (AZ-GA). Truck has never given me a single issue while towing with it.

However that was with a 1000 lb aluminum open trailer and 3300-3500 lbs car. I am now considering purchase up to a 28" enclosed trailer but car now only weighs 2900 lbs.

I am thinking about 4000lbs empty should be my limit to give myself some room?

Truck is 2WD BTW.

I'm not sure what the tow ratings are of the 2006, but I tow my travel trailer that is 30' long and about 6500lbs all over the place with our 2011..

best bet, is to take your max tow rating and then subtract about 1000lbs from it for a 'safe' towing area.

checked on your towing capacity you should be at 9000lbs for RWD, or 8900 for AWD, so towing 4000lbs should be no problem at all.
