My truck has been running great for 19 months and still is doing so but I just got my first electrical gremlin. Just recently noted the tailgate would not open electronically when the handle on the tailgate is activated, nor will it close automatically when the red button at the bottom of the tailgate is depressed. The key fob and the dash remote electronic open/shut mechanisms however are functioning perfectly. Do I need to get to the dealer about 150 miles away, or has someone had a similar problem? Thx.

When sitting in the drivers seat, in front of and at the same height of your left knee there is a switch on the dash. Somehow or someone switched it to off! It's the switch to override the automatic tailgate lift. I've had this happen on two occasions when my wife or older son use the car.

Post back if this corrected your issue.

Happy QX driving.

what trim model and year qx?

thee is a way to cancel the motor in the back by pressing the trunk button twice. you can reactivate it by doing it again.

i dont have a red button on my 2012...

2012 QX 56 theater & wheels package. Red button to close the tailgate is at the bottom of the tailgate. Will try what you both suggested (Grillmaster and Marc) and post an update once I get back home. Thx to both for your input

I have the exact same truck and no red button, just the black button. Strange.

:D Gents, I humbly confess I must be going color blind or I have a pro red filter in my eye which makes me see red when there is trouble . As punisher and Marc correctly noted, that button on the tailgate is black.
The solution was proposed by Grillmaster. I believe my wife must have deactivated the switch (pictured in the attachment) while getting in or during egress from the car.
Thanks to you all for your input
