i have 1993 j30 infiniti that i just bought with 110,120 miles on it and i dont know when the last time the previous owner changed the trans fluid but i checked it and its brown but i heard changing it at high mileage can damage it? the transmission runs fine and does not slip at all it shifts ruff when it goes into second gear but otherwise it shifts pretty smooth.

There's no logical reason why new oil would be harmful to anything. The only thing different between your oil and new oil is just that old oil has a ton of gunk, metal, etc etc in it...none of which helps the lubrication process. I'd change it if it were me just to keep the tranny running fine.

Edit: there's no reason why you can't change the fluid yourself...just get the filter from the dealer to make sure it fits right. I only use synthetic oils.

I would change it, I changed mine every 75,000 miles and still running strong. Up to about 450,000 miles.

yes you should change you never know when did they change it
