Hey guys. My 12 qx has roughly 3000 miles on it. I will first say I live under the black cloud of bad luck and Murphy hates my guts. Lol.
A few things I have had to have service on early on. Simple, minor things but for an OCD like me it's tough to think about the what ifs..
First thing was the noise I heard coming from the passenger's mirror area at hwy speeds. Seemed to be worse in a sidewind or quartering wind from the passenger front side. Diagnosis was a loose cross member on the roof rack. Loose as in about the fall off. Simple tightening of the bolts cured it. This noise presented the day I brought it home.
A month into my ownership one afternoon when I got home from work and shut the driver's door I heard a rattle. I tap the door mirror and nothing. I lift it and it has about an inch of play in it going up and down. I open the door and notice the wood grain part of the door on the inside appears to be hanging our farther than the passenger side. Turns out the bolts holding the mirror and this wood grain piece of the door had worked loose as in about to fall off. Again a simple tightening of the bolts solved the problem. Fortunately the mirror didn't fall off going down the freeway.
Yesterday middle of the day I get back in the vehicle and as I am closing the door I notice the small square piece of rubber on the door seal on the door is missing the bolt that holds it in place and it is flopping. Again not a big deal and a five minute fix at the dealer corrected it.

So herein lies my anxiety. I've owned vehicles since I was old enough to drive and honest to God this vehicle has been in the shop more than all of my other vehicles combined. Fortunately it is nothing major, yet. Can you see why I am a bit worried?
What has been your experiences? I'm not complaining about the problems and the two shops I've used have been awesome at taking care of the problems immediately with no fuss. They seem to be as dazed as myself so I am hoping my black cloud, murphy's law, bad luck is the root of these issues?
Please discuss. Any areas I should check as preventative going forward?

Document, document, document. Save every little detail. I bought #80 of the 2004 copy with every option. Needless to say it was plagued with problems.

In 2007 we about had enough and my wife and I wrote a very nice letter to Infiniti. They contacted the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from and noted 32 dealer corrected problems.

Infiniti replied in a letter saying "Infiniti is better that" so they replaced my truck with a 2007 in kind. The 2007 is night and day to the 2004 as far as repair issues.

I still had a brake booster go at 50k miles that was out of warranty, but the problems have been few and probably expected with any high end SUV.

Not saying that you have one, but bad copies do come off the assembly line from time to time. Infiniti will make every effort to make you a satisfied customer, that much I know. Best of luck!

Let's face it, there's a reason why Infiniti doesn't rank highest in initial quality, which is problems in the first 90 days. Their not there yet but almost there, maybe. I may take a risk and get the QX, it's 20K cheaper than the LX and the wife likes the car but it's things like this that get me worried.

first off, people come to forums to complain/ask questions and rarely come on to post how great the car (or fill in the blank device they are talking about) is.

i have had 3 nissans--a 2006 armada brand new, a 2008 armada brand new and now the 2012 Q brand new. never had an issue with any of those cars. they all performed to my satisfaction. the 2012 q i drive has every trim option infiniti offers and ive had nothing but top notch success with this beast. im only about 8 k miles into this journey, but i have had this car since october 2011 (it was made a month prior to purchase) and no issues.

these cars, just like any other car/truck, etc that are mass produced will have some issues with a car here and there. we should all know this. unfortunately those cars will make it out into the wild and some people may get one and then find a forum to talk about their issues--it happens.

I believe nissan/infiniti have done a great job with the armada and the Q. the early 2004 armada/qx had some brake issues and some interior pieces rattling. those were fixed in the 2005-6 model years and that car was better each year. again i had a 2006 and 2008 and the quality was noticed.

so to the OP, i know your OCD quite well my friend, and understand where you are coming from. its unfortunate you had a car off the line with a few little trim issues. I think, though, that you made the right decision and investment in the Q. its the best SUV out there in terms of bang for the buck.

i realize this is my opinion and it may greatly differ from others. :D

Thanks for the replies. I agree that I absolutely love this suv. So many things make it truly awesome. I continue to hope that these minor issues will be all that I have going forward.
Certainly minor issues I didn't expect from a luxury line of vehicles. Mass produced? Yes. But not certainly at the rate of many other models that i have owned. These minor issues are ones that I didn't think would be overlooked not at this price point. Like I said earlier my OCD has me wondering about other things that may have been overlooked.
I'll be the first to say if it can happen to me it will. That's often not a reflection of the product overall in general.
