QX Playing movies via USB memory stick

that is the way it is unfortunately.

playing videos form the usb only give you that resolution you are seeing. there are only 2 or 3 codecs the Q can play and if you try to play a video file higher (as you tried earlier) the Q will scream at yo uand say it cannot play the file.

if you burn a dvd you get MPEG-2 quality and the proper 16:9 box.

I use a professional video editor, sony vegas but there are so many converters out there. They all do the same so it does not matter which one you use, they will encode whatever you tell them to.

the speed at which the conversion happens depends on the number of cores you have , ram and computer system integrity (hard drive defraged? registry clean? not a lot of processes running in the background, dont do other things whilst the program is converting)

Thx for confirming Marctronixx. Its good to know that there will always be some vertical black borders while ripping based on codecs that the QX will support. Now I know that I am not doing anything wrong.

absolutely. its an issue in the file stricture nissan/infiniti HUs read, so yes you are not crazy its just how the system is designed.

Converting dvd's to play via USB

Folks.. I use wondershare to burn dvd's to divx format so I can play them via a 32 Gb USB drive. I finally have the settings to where the movies will play on the Qx.
My issues are as follows
1. I can't fast forward the divx movies.
2. The movie does not pick up where I left off after I stop and start the car

Both of the above issues are immensely frustrating for my 4 year old as we cannot finish any movies.

Has anyone been able to convert dvd 's into a format that can be played in the QX via USB? If yes, can you please share your settings and the software you used.

Thx!

I follow the format in the owners manual and I have no issues playing off a thumb drive.

Since i work in production, i use a production video software called sony vegas. Final cut, avid, etc, are also options but are costly and maybe overkill for you.

in theory, though, if you observe the bit rate and the container (.divx, etc.) listed on the owners manual, you will not have any issues.

i also dont have an issue with the movie/video file picking up where it last stopped.

try dvdfab, or any of those kind of software apps. there are a million of them on the internet. again just observe the formats in the manual and you are golden.

be advised, on a usb drive, the files wont be full screen and have as much resolution as a dvd.

Hello all,
A newbie here, have been reading in this forum about the issues playing movies through the USB port on USB drive.
I bought new 2014 QX 60 and I'm having the same problem. I tried playing the DIVX, AVI files etc. but the system comes back with files not playable. looked at the resolution they are low, so far I have had no luck. Talked to the dealer no help there as he said they are not supposed to play. Don't know what to do. If anyone in this forum can help please do.
thanks

Read this thread and you will get the answers you seek.

the container (.divix, .avi, etc.), bit rate are equally as importanrt as resolution.

I have zero issues playing any files from USB as long as I stick to the requirements.

look in this thread, in the manual. Get an app like handbrake from the internet and use one of the templates to make your videos. I use a professional video editing software program (thats too overkill to just buy for this, thats why i mentioned handbrake) and edit to taste.

QX60 video issues

marctronixx

Thank you for your response. I tried the file settings with manfacturers recommendation but it still comes back with "unplayable file"
any other ideas?

Also, do you think the thumb drives should have only video files and nothing else?

I have a 32gb usb drive and i have music, video, photos, and even text files on the drive, so it does not matter that you have other files on the drive. The HU will only detect files it can play.

if you look at post #10, that shows the formats and other required settings that need to be adhered to in order to play from the usb drive. that is also in your manual.

what video program are you using to convert these files? I mentioned handbrake, but there are many more on the internet.

video play qx60

As you suggested I used handbrake and I also used DVDfab and wondershare trial version. I tried converting in mkv files and also tried avi files.
I would appreciate if you can tell me exactly what setting to use in any of these programs I will do it and I also find out the mistakes I am making in converting.

Thanks again for your help

Dvd Catalyst and anydvd

I use a program called DVD Catalyst which I have used for years. It is great for ripping dvd- any mobile device format based on the type of device you own. I noticed it also has a setting called Car System which it rips to divx format. It works perfectly for my QX60.
