OBD Scan tool?

hey I'm having the Service Engine Soon light on and the dealer says its the catalytic converter going bad. I'd like to buy a OBD2 reader and get an app for iphone or android so I can read the codes myself. Has anyone tested any of these dongle/apps? As i look through amazon there seem to be a dozen to choose from ... any suggestions appreciated!

i use torque. the torque app lists dongles that it supports.

^^^^^^ thats an elm 327 clone. many of them on the market.

if you want to use a specific scan app , go to amazon and search using the name of the app and you should get hits of modules that work.
