I'm interested in buying a 2000 Infiniti I30. I think that the basics of this car is a Maxima, correct? So i'm thinking that if something needs to be fixed, I could use cheaper Nissan Maxima parts on it and it should still work fine, right?

No, you are incorrect. Also the car is almost 9 years old, make sure you have it checked over by an ase master technician prior to purchasing it so you dont buy a lemon.

as long as the year is correct i do not see a problem with that idea.

Dr Car Guy you are incorrect. Just about every part on 95-99 maxima and infiniti are identical. (Going from a certain year maxima to identical year I30) Inside, EVERYTHING is identical, with the exception of the A/C controls, which are still identical, there are just two different types depending on whether you have SE, GLE, etc. The outside, however, is not identical, but only with body parts, and only some, at that. The hood and doors are the same, but the quarter panels, trunk, etc are different. All mechanical parts, engine, suspension, etc are all the same.
