Hello everyone, My wife just took possession of her mothers 2001 i30. Although it is not the type of car I would choose, It is a great car, with only 27,000 miles. We took a number of road trips with it and it was a pleasure to drive. I do have a few questions. The manual says recomended fuel "premium" ! We have never used premium! Problem? I like the look of the i30t. I can get the spoiler on ebay, the 17' tires and wheels from TireRack. What else makes a touring model? I also would like to do something with the exhaust. Some kind of cat-back I can bolt up myself. Thanks

It's a great car and I think you'll be quite happy with it.

I go back and forth on the premium fuel thing. Unless prices are spiking on the high end, I run middle grade and the car seems plenty happy.

Not sure if you're aware of this but mechanically the car is identical to a Nissan Maxima of the same year. Parts are cheap and easy to find. I've also found a ton of good info at maxima.org

One thing I will suggest is get yourself a copy of the FSM, and one of those little $25 code readers from Harbor Freight. These cars are incredibly reliable and will treat you well for a long time, but when things go wrong, they will often be electronic in nature, and with a small investment in time and education, you can save yourself a few thousand dollars over time in repairs by learning to do things on your own.

Thanks for the reply Montego Murph. I was beginning to wonder about this forum

Give maxima.org a try -- nothing wrong with this forum at all, but it's good to have several resources when attacking a probolem. You'll find a lot of answers in the 5th Gen Maxima forum as well as the i30/i35
