Navigation update

Are there more speed limit updates? I had a Q50 for a loaner and it had way more speed limit posting than my QX but I also had a 2014 QX60 as a loaner once and it wasn't any better than the 2010 version I currently have.

They have added quite a bit:

Last year alone, 569,847 miles of road were updated in the U.S.—and that's only the beginning. Here are a few other notable changes to the navigation system map*:

  • 13,195 gas stations added
  • 22,392 restaurants added
  • 10,591 auto service shops added
  • 3,948,564 street names and addresses added
  • 3,503,237 street names and addresses updated
  • 47,973 speed limit indications added

Update:

I received my 2014 navi update and loaded it this afternoon. It definitely takes quite awhile to load. I did not witness any differences in the voice quality and it still slurs some street names. Almost robotic, if you will. Still it's nice to know it's updated with any new streets, restaurants, hotels etc..

2015 is out and at a good price. $130.00 on sale until June I think.

Same routine as prior years: multiple DVDs and car must be running (not just in the "ON" position -- this is to eliminate any battery issues--if these discs are aborted during the install the CPU and HDD in the HU could be bricked--and you cats know what bricked means! ;-))

one thing of note: Zagat is not included in this version and seems to be removed from the navi system going forward. i never used it anyway and it seems nissan figured people didnt use it so they didnt purchase a license to include it.

I wish they would add more speed limits for roads besides the interstate...even the crappy navi system in the new Lexus has surface street traffic and way more surface street speed limits...

When I did my update I left mine in "ON" and hooked up my battery charger and set it to maintain...after it was done I set it to full charge to make sure it was back at 100%...this beast already burns enough gas...I can't see letting it idle for 2 hrs or more...

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to bite.

The "What We've Added" section is the exact same figures listed by grillmaster above back in Aug 2014 but the link for my 2012MY clearly indicates 2015 software/DVD's.

That's because the 2015 info usually comes out the fall before...I got mine in November but I paid full price...when I got my box in the mail it said 2015 map update.

So this fall 2016 will be the new one.

Right, makes sense. But grill's text was pertinent to the 2014 update. He says he got the 2014 discs. Still seems something is off. Like he ordered off 2015 "What's We've Updated" recap but got the 2014 discs...or, in the past year, they've never updated the actual 2015 update figures.

The box my disks come in state on the front cover, "Map Version X9 - 2014 North America purchased around the August 2014 time-frame. On the back of the box it states, Maps version X9 Released 2013 Infiniti. ZENRIN CO. LTD, 2013 Certain business data provided by infogroup 2012.

The info I posted above came from NavTeqs' website.

Not sure if any of this helps. I would like to mention again the head unit for the 2011 navi looks cheap as compared to my sons 2014 Toyota Tacoma. Of course, just my opinion.

Yeah...thee screen is very dated...no excuse for them to not upgrade it along the way...it should have at least been upgraded with the refresh for 2015...

whatever number you give in the initial order, that the code/number that gets burned into the discs, so when you put them in, the disc has this code burned into it.
NOTHING is "burned into the discs"!

The discs are all the same!

Their "security" is the fact that the activation code they provide to you is BASED ON the serial number if your head unit.

If the activation code you enter DOES NOT COMPUTE to your unit's serial number, the install will not proceed.

highly doubtful you will find one just lying around over the internet. if you are trying to use someone else's dvds to use on your own, a simple generator will not work.

the code is embedded in the DAO tracks on the DVDs. you cant simply strip this away with conventional means. it takes a software program to embed the checksum from the source data to be paired/handshake with the car's ID.

the old school dvds were just dumb discs than had no checksums to compare/handshake with the car and all you needed was a simple code. that is no longer the case with the newer designs...

Two things: 1. we updated our QX w/ the 2015 discs. St. Louis had the Stan Musial bridge open ~2yrs ago, I'm thinking. Still wasn't on the new version, plus a couple other obvious changes locally. Wife complained and they were nice enough to refund our $$$.

2. Regarding the above...interesting what these guys doing this over at the Mini forums: http://www.northamericanmotoring.co...mini-cooper-navigation-map-update-2015-a.html

My question is about the FX but this is the most active thread I found on here...

Was there always a charge for nav updates? I have a 2nd gen FX now but could have sworn I received a free nav upgrade for my 1st gen.

yes there has always been a charge, even on the armada. perhap you had a special deal or something.

ive been updating the nav in my nissan and now qx vehicles since 2008.

Thanks for the informative thread. I am considering the 2017 update for my 2010 and wonder if any of these updates have added an option to allow interaction while the vehicle is in motion? Currently, the passenger is unable to specify an address unless the driver brings the vehicle to a [near] complete stop, which is extremely inconvenient. Also, is there now an option to completely avoid tolls? Thanks again!

that is designed on purpose. the navi updates are only for new waypoints, roads, etc.

there is a way to bypass that nanny setting but it involves modifications and removal of the head unit in the dash.

the option to avoid toll roads has been in the navi settings for many years on armada/qx.

I ordered a Sat-Nav update DVD set for my G37x Labor day. It was on sale for $99. I procrastinated while browsing and the free shipping pop-up appeared. Unfortunately it looks like they're back up to $149.

It came last Wednesday. I installed it Thursday. Discs 0-3 took about 30ish minutes to upload. Disc 4 took about 5 minutes. Disc 0 is an app update. I read from another owner it helped improve voice activated phone calls. The map that was replaced looked like the original map in the car when the car was new.

oft times there will be some software updates on these discs. ive gotten them every year and i have heard the voice assist be a little different, some icons show up on the maps, the map resolution get finer (down to street level!), just for example. good to see you get some value out of them. for the qx, the 5 /6 discs take about 90 minutes...
