Navigation update

I'm glad this ($179.00) update is working out for you guys....mine is def. working as advertised. If anyone has the know-how on the spoof or wants to try to break the activation code I'm willing to sell my discs for $$...hell I don't know...pm if interested, I don't want to step on legality's toes.

....yeah I did...it took about what they said it would, aprox. 70-80 minutes, I'd come back and check on it about every 8 to 10 minutes to make sure there was no errors or anything but it was fairly simple...and no dealership involved !! (..that was nice..)

The price is insane for the CD set... IMHO!!

For the few who've installed the X9 series... Other than the updated routes, did u notice any improvements with the new installation??

other than the voice is more human, updated routes/streets, etc, i think most of the system disk was under the hood updates.

hey the code used to be 279 when they went to HDD back in the 2008 model year!

Did the 2014 update today. Make sure you have time and a full tank of gas as your QX will be idling for 1:45 or so. 5 disc set. I had the original map information from 2011 and we'll be doing some serious traveling this summer.

burns about a 1/4 tank. the updates this year are less subtle that last years but the systems voice recognition is years better than only a couple years ago.

def. worth the cost.

,,,"the updates this year are less subtle that last years"

Hey Marc, does 'less subtle' mean they changed the menus and the look of the navigation system ?

and in 2013 you mention 'under the hood updates' this update actually changes some of the ECU programming ? really ?

I was thinking about getting the 2014 cause you say the voice recognition is better. I'm back on the fence:D LOL
I'm from the 'if it's not broke, then don't fix it' group.
Do they give a list of the update included?
Best Regards
Parrott

no the nav updates are just for nav and the voice recognition software. last years was a pretty good upgrade because the voice was much much much more natural sounding.

the updates this year are just POIs and updates. what was cool was i was in vegas for NAB last month and I had street level view on the nav and it showed all of the casinos and attractions on the screen! that was amazing to see! details in the signs and buildings.

this years update i noticed when in expert mode, the voice activated system answers you quickly--does not say a lot of jibber jabber. for example, you press the voice icon on the steering wheel and it says "what would you like to do..." (not word for word but close) whereas before it would say a list of things... just little things like that but its worth it....

the DVDs will say on them what they are for but they dont list explicit updates...

nav update

Excellent, thanks Marc, I have ordered it.

Is it ok to drive around doing the update or do you have to stay in one place? Idle for an hour is kind of a waste of time, I figured I could do the update while going somewhere. Is that ok?

You can drive around but you can't turn off the car once the process starts.

you wanna sell your 2013 discs??

I think my non-update Nav from 2011 shows all the DC monuments in 3D when i drive through the area

the discs are hard coded to the HU serial number specific to the vehicle so even if someone gave you the discs they would not work in other cars....

I knew they were "hard coded"... but you'd think there would be a way "around" this coding.

I guess if you owned 2 QX's you'd have to purchase 2 sets of Nav DVDs ...

absolutely correct. each HU has a serial number and when you place your order you put in that serial number. when you get the discs and start the install, it asks for the code you get from the email and then it checks the code against the serial number on the HU to make sure they match and then install starts.

I bought it for $99, which I thought was reasonable, and installed it today. Very happy with the upgrade. Much better than my stock 2012.

I also purchased the updates for $99 for my 2011 which had never been updated. It took around 2 hours for the upgrade to complete but the process ran smoothly.

Mind sharing the link? I see the original link has it for $129, which is $50 off.
