High/fast idle when hot

2001 I30t 132K miles

Replaced mass air flow sensor due to comp code (but this problem existed before that)

When the engine gets hot from idling when standing still/parked, the idle steadily increases to as much as 3500, which in turn makes the engine hotter.

If I drive it around, especially on the highway to cool it down, the idle returns to normal.

If the engine is hot and idling high, stopping and restarting it does not help.

Any ideas?

I'm surprised that no one responded because as I browse I see that many Infiniti owners have experienced this issue but no one seems to know the cause or how to fix. Don't want to take to dealer and not have them have a clue. Unemployed people can't afford that nonsense! Anybody out there have some suggestions?
