Hi, I hope someone might know if the gear ratios could be changed from 3.36 to the 2.97 in my 2006 QX56. My front diff is on borrowed time and I just bought a used titan front diff that only has 55,000 miles on it. I checked with my local nissan with the vin to verify ratio and she said the titan had the 3.36. After getting it home and checking the ratio I find out its the 2.94 ratio. I was looking at used ones and noticed that the newer QX's are running the 2.94 and was wondering why they changed and if I should keep this front and find a back with the same ratio and change them both. Does anyone know if they are running same transfercase and transmission as the older qx or is it different and why they changed to the lower ratio. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

The current Z62s have a completely different transmission and t-case from the previous generation QX56. Besides the 7 speed upgrade from the previous 5 speed, the Z62s are only AWD when the first gen WA60, A60 and JA60 were 2WD with available Auto, 4HI, 4LO.

The gear ratios for both differentials, front and rear must be the same. The second you switch to AUTO, 4HI, or 4LO, you'll start running into issues with binding on the drivetrain, cruise control not functioning correctly... among other issues and driving anywhere where the truck is engaged out of 2WD.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't change just the front without matching the back. I did see that the 3.36 ratio is better than the lower one so I guess I'll sell this one and find a 3.36 for it.
Thanks
