First off, first time to this forum group. Thank you for acceptance.
I have 1996 J30 with 188,000 miles on it. Grandson ran it out of oil, front seal had been leaking three years but I always made sure to keep it topped off. Let my grandson use it and he assumed he knew when it needed to check the oil. He was wrong. Engine has loud knock, can't tell if bad valve but suspect rod damage. It starts and will idle enough to move it in driveway but when trying to increase RPM's it dies.
Transmission is strong but needs to warm up about 2 minutes in cold weather in order to get it to drive forward. Reverse mode okay about 30 seconds after starting.. I believe there is an overdrive problem issue.
So, I am looking to get replacement engine and transmission and do repair same time.
Now two questions.
#1. I want to pull the engine/transmission as a unit. Is there enough room to do that without removing the header and condenser.
#2. Do I need to buy or have programmed another ECM or computer with a new engine replacement?
