Hi all. My daughter has a 2006 QX56 and the cruise quit working quite awhile ago. When she turns the cruise on, it makes a beeping sound and here is a shot of the lights that come on. The green and orange "cruise" lights both stay on. Any ideas? Thanks.

could be anything.

how many miles?

does it have the assisted cruise or just standard conventional cruise?

if it has the assisted, there may be an issue with the sensor on the front of the car.

first thing to do is get a code reader and read the codes.

just the nag lamp coming on the dash wont tell you anything , other than to have the system checked. it could be any number of issues.

ask your daughter what happened prior to the issue occurring. also is she the only owner or was it a useds vehicle when purchased?

Following are answers she just provided:

how many miles? 129,000

does it have the assisted cruise or just standard conventional cruise? I think it is just standard.. how the hell do I know?

Absolutely nothing. One day it worked, the next it did not, same with the backup camera.. they went out at different times. Also, the power sun roof doesn’t just roll back when you push the button you have to push, release, push release… until it goes all the way open… same thing to close it. Could be all related? Windows could be related to when Best Buy put in the starter… I can’t remember if the cruise went out before that but I don’t know. I got a new battery last year and then all of the sudden the sun roof started to work correctly and now it doesn’t again.

LOL... :)

she needs to go to a local autozone and have one of the chaps use a code reader to scan for codes. most likely there will be some.

after she gets that, report back what she finds.

she mentioned her sunroof doesn't roll back on its own, does her windows act the same way? if so, she just needs to reset the auto roll back function.

smoke these videos:

if the battery was removed, it likely reset her radio presets as well.

if the rear camera is out, does she have the guide lines on the screen or is it just a blank screen?

I'll email this to her and get back to you.

Thanks much.

The rear camera did have lines across it but now it's just a blank screen. I told her to get it to an Autozone store and find out what their scanner has to say.

If it is totally black screen, the CCU is most likely shot. That’s separate from the camera.

Do the backup sensors/sonar work when the car is backing up?

The CCU can be bought salvage or online.

The backup sensors do work.

good. so the BCM is speaking to the sensors and modules that should be activated when the reverse is entered. WRT the camera, it may be the CCU as speculated...

Funny but we just had the same exact issue the OP described. 08 with 134K so I'm not getting it diagnosed or fixed (unless it's super cheap and easy)

Sometimes a sensor on the assisted cruise system will develop a fault (more likely). Worse case its something in the wiring harness, which could be a rabbit hole.

Best place to start is checking for any DTC’s at the obd port.

Thanks for all the assistance but I'd prefer layman's terms instead of abbreviations. Not everyone is car savvy like you people. ;)

She hasn't got it to an autozone yet so we're kind of stuck in limbo right now.

if she has a smartphone, she can purchase a 20 dollar bt dongle off amazon and check the codes herself.

she can try any kind of autozone -esque shop, like pep boys.

Just so you know, the autozone in Sioux Falls is only able to check codes related to the engine. She'll just have to get it to a mechanic's shop someday.
