Cefiro Headlights 97 i30

I just put some Cefiro 1 piece headlights on my otherwise stock 97 i30. I love the way they look, but the performance.... not so much. I have tried to adjust them without success. They just aren't as bright as my original headlights. In fact they are pretty dim directly in front of the car. I used my original headlights, and turn signals, (the side markers I just left off as there is no place to put them.
1) Do I need a hotter bulb?
2) Are the original cefiro bulbs also 9004's?
3) Do I need to alter the depth they sit in the headlight housing to change the beam pattern?

I solved it. I did some research and I believe the cefiro came with H4's.... so I made a conversion harness and installed H4's. I CAN SEE! It must have to do with the filament orientation of the two bulbs. The H4 is arranged 90 degrees out from the 9004 - anyhoo, the headlight housings must be designed for the H4 because the difference is night and day (pun intended)

Now to figure out which HID conversion to use.....

How do you "make" a harness? Is it as simple as cutting off the extra tabs?
