Has anyone had an old CAT cut out and a new one welded in? My lcoal muffler shop said it is possible and they use better CATS for $600 total vs $2000 for a new CAT at the dealer.

I have not, but there are other solutions I have seen that cost less. Curious?Have you tried cleaning your cats first with seafoam? I have a write up on how to do it and I can say it really works. I will be posting an update real soon about it, but I can say that it does work and it is worth a try.

I was going to chime in on the cat thread, but I had this done a few weeks ago.

I have a 2011 that threw the code at a little over 80K miles. I'm now at 135K. Last month the wife was heading out of town and called about 30 minutes after she left to say the car was doing something weird. It was occasionally sputtering and the CEL light would blink. I told her that's no good and she needed to come back home. Once at home, I put my OBD reader on it and it had codes 0420 0430 and 1148. The P1148 indicated to me that the cat was just about totally clogged or toast.

So I called my local muffler shop. I knew this same shop performs this work from calling around a few years prior when I initially got the 0420 code. They were able to get me in the same day. I already had the two sensors that I had purchased in anticipation of getting this done. After the install fee for the sensors (an hour labor? - kinda ridiculous, considering I can see and reach them without much effort) and tax, it was a little over $900.

The mechanics told me that if I had an AWD, it would have been a lot more because the cats are much harder to get to and a lot of labor is involved in removing parts.

Here's the sensors I purchased - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EZQJA8I/

She's been running fine since :)

I have a 2009 fx35 89k miles been have the cel on for almost a year and some change. Got o2 sensor upward replaced then cel still on the o2 sensors and calalytic converter code pops up. So had a leak in the calalytic converter and something else with the other day one I forgot so got two aftermarket calalytic converters welded on and a downward stream o2 sensor put on. I’m in Cali now gonna get it smog will see how this goes
