Hi Group - My 1998 infiniti i35 t is cutting off at stoplights and today, cut off while I was driving it!

I have a few ideas but wanted to know if anyone has had this happen and knows what it could be?

I used my at-home code reader and it came up: O2 sensors, Evaporative Vacuum Cannister....

Would either of these cause the car to literally cut off or not get fuel?
Thanks!

Hi John,

Unfortunately, I have not had time to take it in (I was driving another car).... I will let you know as soon as I find out - any thoughts or ideas from you?

Hi AZ
I haven’t either beyond searching YouTube vids which all seem to say similar things so I’m gonna start with the cheapest things first like removing corrosion from the battery cables and getting the battery charged and a new air filter and fuel filter and then move on to the possible issues that cost more money.

Hi John, I know this is an old post... I finally took my car in and I had a rip in the Intake Air Tube (so I would check that out) - I believe it is a fuel to air combustion ratio issue. The mechanic doesn't have the knowledge to go further with my car so I have to take it somewhere else... I'm finding out a lot of mechanics do not know how to properly fix Infinitys.... the good news is that the Air Intake Hose fixed the cutting off issue, but the check engine light came back on...

Any news on your end?

Did you try to put a OBD reader on to check codes?

Hi, I have more information as I spoke directly to the mechanic after he replaced the air intake tube, it pulled a knock sensor code and the code for the evap purge control solenoid, Unfortunately he did not go further to see if it was simply stuck shut which would explain a lot of things. But at least I have it narrowed down to the control solenoid or the lines may be filled with carbon or junk that needs to be cleared out the other thing they should have done was a smoke test in the charcoal canister which they did not do that should have been included in the diagnostic fee that I paid but they didn't do it hence why I'm moving the car to another repair shop. This specific codes that it pulled were P1447 (purge EVAP solenoid) and P0304, knock sensor....I'm so disappointed that they did not pull the solenoid to check if it was simply stuck shut or do a smoke test .. any thoughts or ideas? I will add that it is a very common problem in infinitis in the late 90 models...

Crazy thing on my 78, the purge line to the tank had alot of water in it. Then the char canister pellets were pulled into the carb. Had a huge mess. After looking for a year, I replaced the canister, gas cab and rebuilt the carb AGAIN

Sorry to hear that... I think the fuel injectors are fine - with mine, it is the Carbon/Char canister -since the engine runs so well, praying nothing else was damaged. What symptoms was yours having?
