Ok I'm new here so I'll try to be brief.
BACKGROUND- Changed out battery w/new one (time car without battery appox 45min). Car started x2 for just a few secs then died. After this it wouldn't start. Tried to re-set the Security as in manual with both keys & didn't work. Towed to my mechanic who said he wasn't getting anything out of the ecm & that it need to go to dealer to have ecm "Re-Flashed" and the NATS ReSet (he's had a few cars that have done this in the past/dif brands though). Dealer then trys to say they did all this "diagnostic-testing" and that the ECM needed re-programed and it'd be $$$, (well yeah that's what they were told when it was towed in there UGH), then the next delay is getting the "correct" tool to do it-since it's so old they don't have it and have to get it from a 'sister dealer'..more delay. They get it and it's broken...so they 'borrow' one from a Nissan dealer close by...delay..then they say that the ECM is bad and will need a new one $$$$. I talk to my mechanic and he said to get one off the internet. Well that turned into a further 2wk delay cause the 1st company never shipped it to me multiple times as promised, then found a 2nd company who promptly shipped me one. Took new ecm to dealer for programing..3d latter they are saying that they've researched this further and found documentation that basically says ECM cant be programed and would have to get ECM from them for a discounted rate of 8$$. Called my ecm vender and they stated that the only vehicles that have restricted programing are Mercedes and that this ECM can be programmed.
So the question is, can this blank ecm for a 99 infinity i30 be programmed or not? I know that the NATS is prog'd in for the specific car in addition to the generic OS for the vehicle. The dealer is basically saying the generic OS prog cant be prog'd.
Either way I need some type of knowledge/documentation to take to the dealer/ecm vendor supporting that determination.
Currently this car has been broke for going on 1 1/2mo and I NEED IT FIXED. Can someone please help me? I feel that I'm getting the run around every place I turn and the car is useless without the ECM.
