So our 2012 QX56 was parked at a middle school while our family was outside at an event no more than 75 yards away and outside. The car was locked and the alarm activated. Someone smashed in the passenger rear window, climbed up, reached in and stole a bag. The alarm did not sound. Does smashing a window not activate the alarm???

As a side note, anyone have any tips on how to temp seal up this window until we can get it fixed? We're in Virginia and it's cold.....

if you have just the stock alarm it does not have a glass breakage sensor. the triggers on the stock alarm are, hood, trunk and door. thats it.

i added the glass/shock sensor (factory part but not installed factory, its an optional accessory) trigger the first week i picked up my 12.

Wow, I guess I will add that to the list of things to ask about for new car purchases down the road. I didn't even see that anywhere as an option. How much was it?

oh, and how ridiculous is it for a $60K+ car to not have a glass break sensor in the alarm?

So... what's involved in installing that glass breakage module?

this module is an impact sensor. it senses impacts to the car. it has a sensitivity knob you adjust to taste. you dont want to make it too sensitive or it will go off when it detects vibrations from loud mufflers in a garage, etc.

the modules instructions state to mount it on the wiring harness attached to the steering linkage under the steering wheel finisher. it is NOT plug and play, but there are specific open slots for the wires to go into, and its easy to slide them in as the harness ends are designed to be opened to add/remove wires, etc.

i forget how many wires but its 4 or 5 i think. if your alarm went off and reset on its own (say a loud muffler or booming radio system set it off) when you return to the car and press the door switch, it will beep three or four times (going from memory here) instead of two to let you know it went off and reset.

also as you walk to the car, you know how the lights light up as you approach the car? well if the alarm had tripped, they would not light up. this is to alert you visually that the alarm was triggered.

it is a simple install and the instructions are easy to follow. its worth the price. i have a 2012 (purchased brand new) and i installed it just after i got my car. i did a lot of research on oem infiniti accessories hence why i even knew this accessory existed.
