I'm new. I did search a lot of threads to see if anyone had experienced this, but didn't see any. Yesterday, driving 1999 Infiniti I30, I pressed the ambient temperature button to see how hot it was. 100°F! This was in Chicago, after I'd been driving at least 10 minutes. The outside temperature was not more than 80°F, if that. The inside cabin temperature seemed correct: 76°F.

I'd keep pressing the ambient temperature button as I drove. Kept getting high 90's to 100°F. This morning, my wife was driving and checked the ambient temperature. 68°F, which was correct.

What sort of glitch shows outside temperature being more than 10°F higher than it actually is, but then goes away? I don't even know where the temperature sensor is for the HVAC ambient temperature readout. Or the cabin temperature sensor either, for that matter. It's never done this before, under similar driving conditions (freeway, 60 mph, summer or winter). Strange.

The sensor for the outside is located right in front behind the grill on the chassis side in front of the radiator. easy to change. Also, it picks up heat from the engine while idle and if the fans are on. It should normally drop if the car is moving. Hope this helps.
