Has any one done ambient lighting to there QX's? I am thinking of doing this, I have located the accessory plug that infiniti supplies for powering the accessory items. I ordered some kick plate lighting for the front and back. They are for the 2018 model, but surprisingly they will work with the 2011 on up to 2018. I also found an interior lighting kit for our trucks, along with wireless phone charger that can be installed in the center console. Just wondering as anyone taken the plunge yet and did any of these things? Show pictures please!

You may likely be the first. Very rare to see people mod this vehicle. So, it is cool to see some unique mods, even if one may never want to do it. Just seeing it is cool though.

You should definitely go ahead and do the mods and share pictures and as much details as you wish to share to help others do the same or admire your work.

Will be waiting...

Thank you all. The kick plates that I got were OEM for 2018 QX80 from ebay. I got them for an awesome deal! Here is the link to the ebay listing.

I like these better then the other ones because the rear also illuminate.

There is a website that I found from Infiniti that has all the accessory install pdf. So when looking at the diagrams for this I found that the lights have one red wire and one black wire (power and ground). Now this is were it gets a complicate to someone who doesn't probably understand wiring. The new infiniti QX80 have a different accessory plug then it predecessor. You can for the 2018 also buy the harness for the plug which has all the wiring you need to do a clean install. That being said the old QX56 and QX80 have an 8 pin plug and usually the accessory's for that just plug into that plug and your done. Because these are 2018 QX80 kick plates I will have to wire tap behind the plug the red and black wire. If I wanted to get real fancy I figure I could make my own wiring harness that would plug right into the 8 pin. Once I get the kick plates delivered I will take pictures and detail which route I took. Hope to post soon!

At the moment the link does not pull up the photos but based on your description that are like the OEM variants. Ive the OEM ones and yea the backs don’t illuminate—not a concern for me when I saw this because no one sits back there anyway. If I recall (i did this back in 2012 when i got the qx)I just tapped into an empty fuse panel on both sides in front. You’ll have to run wiring under the plastic kick panel finisher —maybe run the wiring up to the front with the front plates and just tap into the same fuse tap you will do for the fronts? They are super easy to install.

Here is a picture of them from the listing. 2018 Infiniti OEM Kick plate

I have replaced the incandescent lights in the interior with LED bulbs on all 3 of our QX's. It makes a huge improvement and matches the exterior lights as well as the kick plate lighting. Why they don't come like this from the factory is beyond me.

Easy.. so save money. Tungsten/filament bulbs are cheaper then a penny when in bulk.

Why didnt the second gen qx come with auto dimming outside mirrors EVEN THOUGH the first gen armada had it? Even the inside mirror was auto dimming. Well, i see it that it was cost savings because the tech is there (the outside mirrors auto dim from the signal direct from the inside auto dim mirror). I think the 2013 was the year nissan put the outside auto dim mirrors on the qx..

Alright, here we are some pictures of the install of the 2018 kick plates on a 2011 QX56. I ended up making my own wiring harness to plug into the 8 pin accessory plug. It really turned out very nice. Enjoy! Will take night pic's later on today.

Here are some pictures from the driver side. I ended up making a harness from the driver side to the passenger side to connect to the same accessory plug. I just think it is cleaner that way.

Here are some before and after.
