60,000 mile service

I change my own wiper blades and have a K & N rechargeable air filter and I change the in-cabin filter myself. That brought my total for the 60,000 mile service down a little.
 
talked to dealer when i dropped the car off this AM, they did not recommend changing all the fluids @ 60k, said it wasn't needed.
 
I had everything but the coolant changed @ 60k...the coolant was changed when they did warranty work to get rid of the bubbling noise in the heater core around 50k...

60k is long enough for any fluid to me. The manufacture is only worried about trying to keep maintenance cost down. If you are a short term owner then I wouldn't worry about it either. The PSF and Transmission fluid is part of their premium package which ended up only being about $750...
 
i had coolant fluid changed around 35K i believe.. ;) was recommended.

be sure and replace the tstat and the radiator cap.

So, to follow up, my dealer (Pepe) was pretty relaxed about the whole thing and just said it was better to take a look at the whole car and only change what needed it. Ended up not even doing the 60k mile package I signed up for and put ATF and steering fluid on the docket for the next round. Also, for the rear wiper, they just charged for the part and no labor ($15?), I think someone mentioned that up above. I checked the manual and it doesn't recommend changing the diff, etc, at 60k (if i recall it was well over 100k).
 
These long service intervals are just to lower the cost of ownership. They could care less what happens after you are out of warranty and the timing chain issue is proof of that. I don't believe any oil that lubricates is good for 100k.

But I do understand both the average consumer and the dealerships stance on certain maintenance items...the fewer things they touch...the lower their liability becomes...
 
I just called my stealer and they quoted me $1,235 for the 60k miles service, WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. That's an extra $329 and I have serious doubt as to whether or not they'll actually do it but just charge me for it.

Can an independent shop do this service, including the transmission fluid?

I can subtract a few things from the 60k mile service like wiper blades, tire rotation, oil change, both cabin and air filter but that's not going to add up to a lot.

Any thoughts? I feel like I'm getting totally screwed!
 
$1,325?!?! Damn! What can they possibly be doing for that price...that's almost double what I paid!!!

Yeah, I'm going to find an indy that will do the work I want done at 60k miles and see how much they'll charge.

There is only one Infiniti dealer here locally. This is the same dealer that charged me for rotating tires and when I caught them not rotating them, they told me I was wrong even though I'd marked all the rims and could prove they hadn't rotated them. Based on that, I bet there are other services they charge for they don't actually do.
 
Sound like your dealer sucks...which is sad...I would have reported them.
 
I'd have to go out of state to find another dealer. Sorry to say but I'm going Indy. I have reviewed what needs to be done at 60k miles and it all looks pretty straight forward to me. No way in hell I'm paying $1300.

yup... i agree... the service intervals seem to come quicker and quicker ... I swear I must have spent close to $2k in the past year on service/maintenance .. I'm gonna pull my receipts.. it's getting ridiculous.
 
2k in the past year?!?! 60k was around $750 and 30k might have $400...and 45k maybe around the same...a little cheaper than 30k...unless you covered all those and more I don't see how you got to $2,000 in a year....unless you had brakes and rotors replaced
 
I just had the 90k done... which was $725.

I'll pull my receipts for the past year and do the tally
 
Had my 60k mile service done at an Indy shop. I've gone to these guys pretty often and trust them to know what they're doing. They did all the services + changed the transmission fluid and my total including tax out the door is just under $700. They said they understand why it's so expensive since they said Infiniti requires all Nissan specialty fluids and they're expensive. They said the fluids alone ran them about $400.

I feel pretty good about just saving myself over $600 on that service and I'm confident it was done right. They walked me through everything they did.
