Can someone please tell me why people are buying the QX80/QX56 as a RWD (4x2) truck and not as a true 4x4???

Don't make any sense to me... well I'm dumb... but that's besides the point!:eek:
 
maan i agree. 4X4 or bust.

if one has to , skimp over one or two of the packages, but not the 4X4. AWD... im with you rough

i guess you and i are both dumb. :D dumb and dumberer.. :p

and before anyone says "well here in ____, we dont need 4X4".

THATS NOT THE POINT! one day you will be in _____ and you will wish you had the 4X4 and for that one time it will pay for itself in spades....
 
Yea, I'd have to agree, this is a BIG SUV and a 4x2 of this weight/size on any kind of slick road at all would be a nightmare..
 
Ok...I'll be that guy.

It simply comes down to availability in some cases. We had a choice of 8 used QX at our dealer when we purchased. One of the 8 was 4x4. It had the rear bench seat that my wife didn't like and didn't have the technology package.

We briefly looked at the new ones. They had about 15 on the lot. 1 was 4x4 and it was fully loaded and something like $82k sticker.

I've driven our QX in torrential rain, through moderately flooded roads, and over dirt roads in the time we've owned it. It didn't ever hesitate to get us where we needed to go. Laugh if you will, but it doesn't snow here and the rare days it ices, the city closes. I'm from the North, so it's just hilarious to me, but I'm getting used to it. I had to pick up my son from school early one day last year because of threat of icing. Really?

Anyway, I would have preferred a 4x4, but given where we operate the QX 99.9% of the time, I really don't miss it.

Everything has a price. Many people are willing to deal with the downsides of no 4x4 in order to save $3k on the purchase price. 4x4 is 250 lbs heavier. 4x4 may have higher maintenance costs. That point might be debatable, but some people may be thinking it at purchase time. In the world of traction control, 4x4 the safety gap is narrowed between rwd and 4wd. When it comes to stopping, 4x4 is irrelevant and if anything, will hurt stopping distance due to the additional weight.

All that being said, I required 4x4 when I bought my 2006, but I knew that I'd be using it. The family that I purchased it from said they never had a use for it.
 
Okay, you live in Florida, Houston, Phoenix, etc.

If I lived someplace like that with no intention of traveling outside that area I would consider a 4x2.

As long as I live somewhere that the possibility of nasty weather exists, I will go with the 4X4. I hate chains and will never put on another set of them.

Same here. I live in Southern California and had a spare set of wheels with snow tires that I'd mount for trips to the mountains. Installing chains/cables on a lowered car in freezing weather is not fun.

BUT, you still need to make sure you have adequate traction for stopping and turning.

I wasn't try to imply people buying 4x4s were spend thrifts.... I was attempting to voice how flabbergasting it is for Infiniti (or any other maker) of larger SUVs would even making the QX anything other than a 4x4.

It's like when Porsche made the 914, or Cadillac made the Cimarron,or Jaguar made the S-type, or MB made the C-class.... basically using a car of a different caliber, adding some features and then calling it a luxury brand to sell a few more cars (Yes I know Infiniti QX is a Titan, etc)... but don't strip out features to attract a few more customers.

Again, just voicing my opinion.. I know it's dollar and cents for big business to thrive .
 
I just did a nationwide search on Autotrader for QX56 and found 1347 4x4 and 724 rwd for sale. That makes 35% of them RWD.
