2016 QX80 Base with 275/50-22" tires that need replacement. The Infiniti spec calls for 275/50 but I've seen some very good deals on premium brands for 285/45-22's. I've read some about this alternate size but don't get a definitive recommendation. I've also read the differences in all the measurements plus mph and mpg variances, which are minimal. Has anyone on the forum installed a set of 285/45's and what has been your experience? I live in the Houston area and 90% of driving is local and rarely over a 30 mile round trip. Thanks in advance.

thanks marc. so you would recommend 305/45 or 285/45 or 295/45, which is best in ur opinion?

i can tell you why i went with the 305s because i wanted a wider / lower profile tire, and the 305s looked great! i don't know how your roads are and if you tow, travel a lot, etc but i did not have any issues on the car by going this route.

here are some older threads that may help you decide:

Replacement Tires -- mixed with 20s/22s but if you sesrch through thr thread you may get some more ideas.

I think @primov8 has 22s and is a regular active member on this site. if he sees this he may lend his opinion..

When I had a set of Goodyear Fortera SL 284/45/22s, the noticeable difference from the OE Bridgestone tires was how much smoother the truck drove.

Although these Fortera SL tires have a really nice tread pattern, it does have its cons. It definitely was a softer compound/construction as the tires lasted about 30K+ miles. The miles accumulated over 2-1/2 years were from multiple road trips and daily driven in NYC, stop and go traffic. These tires have directional treads too so rotating them was also limited to just front<—>rear swaps; no cross rotations.

ive had 305/45/22 on my qx for years. im in LA. had zero issues.
And those mount right onto the factory 22 wheel? Those must have a massive lip at the rim. I am considering bigger, but I would not mind a little taller, but worried about the arm clearance up top.

again, never had any issues. no clearance issues, no rubbin', no nuthin'.. ;-)
Just to confirm, those are mounted on factory wheels? 33 x 12.50 would be equally as good if so.

i sold the vehicle back in 2020.

these probably won't help you, but the last photo i took was when i dropped it off at Range Rover, who bought it. i also attached a receipt of the set of tires i bought from tirebuyer dot com.

those tires on the qx are the ones in this receipt and also the wheels are factory.

I had 285 45 22 installed on stock rims. I just traded my 16 and switched to 24.

Switched the tires to winter as i had an older 22 from earlier models i picked up locally returned the vehicle with those 8 spoke and kept 14 spokes. let me see if one of them still has a 285.
just went out to snap pictures. ill see to get another one in morning. sorry took random pictures
