I did some searching, but maybe I used the wrong words...

I have a 2012 QX56 and the automatic rear suspension is not activating and bringing the ride height back up.

I've checked the fusible link and relay and those checked fine. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

No problems with mine, but I fear that day. After owning an Audi allroad and replacing 5 air shocks on that (the front twice and one rear) during the 3 years I owned it, I figure it's just a matter of time before the QX system needs attention.

my pump seems to run frequently and not actually accomplish anything. but the car is generally level.

this winter when i was in VT on the weekends and it was really cold (<0), the drivers rear side would often sit 2-3 inches lower than the passenger rear side (judged by tire clearance). of course, by the time i got back home it would have resolved itself. it always drove fine, however.

my brother in law has a 2000-ish allroad, those air shocks are a disaster.

I did not realize that the beast actually used the airbags in rear as part if normal suspension? I thought it was only there to level heavy loads??? I'm assuming that our beast does not use the air suspension like my Audi A8 does???

Did the check suspension light come on? Do all the 2011+ QX56 have the automatic leveling suspension or just the ones with HBM? I wish they would have given us adjustable height like the LX570 or Cayenne...but oh well...

op,

i answered you over at the other site...

if you are the original owner:

should be under warranty. have the dealer smoke it over
or if its used:

there is an arm back there that can be adjusted depending on ride height. this could have been changed.

the sensor for the arm movement back there could be faulty.

pump could be faulty.

takes a certain amount of weight to activate, so what are you putting back there that you feel should be causing thew pump to activate?

I'm not the original owner - no warranty left.

Yes, there is an arm and it is not deformed, but could be faulty.

Pump works. I ran 12v to it last night and it pumped up fine.

Could also be the "Air Levelizer Control Module" - Expensive

I'm putting a trailer and a car back there.

CK SUSP light does not illuminate when the system is malfunctioning according to the service manual.

Thanks for the replies.

susp lamp has nothing to do with this.

plug up the OBD port and see if any DTC's crop up.

if pump, fuses get power and work, the arm may be the culprit.

yeah worse case its the module.

Ran through the checks on the sensor last night, and that's the problem. It has the required 5v coming in to it, but the voltage going out is always too high. It is never sending the signal to the controller to raise the suspension.

Too bad the sensor is expensive as well...

Yeah, I'm sure they are out there, but I don't want to deal with it. I ordered one today and having it shipped next day air. I'll probably still have to take it into the stealership to get the initial ride height programmed, but I'm going to see how close it is first.

Thanks for your input on this thread!

well of course getting it new is preferred. i only mentioned second hand since your posts seemed to suggest you did not want to get a new one.

congrats you are on the way to getting this issue solved...

yeah, I would say "want to buy a new one" is a bit strong. :) Definitely don't want to...

My only concern was buying a new one when that wasn't the problem. I was hoping that someone else had the problem and could lead me in a certain direction. Guess I'm the guinea pig on this issue.

yep guinea pig for sure. i frequent 3 major nissan forums and never have seen this issue wit the sensor. you are breaking new ground! :)

Good day guys....
Picked up my 2011 QX56 and I think the rear should be higher than what it is right now.
Before picking it up,the dealer changed the compressor and I thought the height will auto adjust so I didn't say much but it's been a couple of days and even went and picked up a couch and it still sags.
I will attach some pics for you guys to see if this is normal.
Also a quick question, for the year 2011 QX56,where are the air bags, are they built into the shocks or should be separate and visually visible ?
I crawl underneath the truck to see whats going on but couldn't see any airbags.I will appreciate some pics.
Thank you.

As you see,the rear is pretty low compared to the front.

I am having trouble with the rear of my 2012 QX56 sagging horribly immediately after getting it back from the dealer performing the timing belt recall. I'm being told that being on the lift with the engine turned on (when the recall was done) could have caused some malfunction/damage. I'm not a car expert so can anyone more versed in these things help me out here??

if you are having issues and you are not versed in these types of matters AND it just left the shop, just return it and have them check it. let them know your concerns and what you have been "told" about the car being on the lift.

there is a leveling adjust arm back there that may need re-adjusting. the compressor could be disconnected. it could be damaged. hard to diagnose over the internet.

The dealership is an hour away, so it's a huge hassle & I'm out of bumper to bumper warranty so I wasn't expecting to have the work done there but rather locally. No local shop wants to touch it, Nissan dealership included so I was trying to troubleshoot on my own rather than blow $100 to have them diagnose the problem. The dealership never has any parts in stock. I'm WAS trying to avoid multiple trips if there is a simple fix but since the catalytic converter is now a throwing a code as well, looks like I'll be headed to the dealership after all.

you can grab the service manual for the car and inspect the suspension section.

there is a lever arm back under there by the compressor that one can adjust to raise or lower the ride height. could be a fuse, could be a leaking air bag, could be a unplugged harness, could be a faulty compressor.. lots of things to check which is why its difficult to diagnose over the internet, but getting the service manual is y9our first step to at least getting familiar with the system.

ive studied the shop manual for this car and i swear i can build one... :)
