I do not plan on doing any programming through the consult tool neither do I have access to the tool. I read in a thread about some people having remote start installed or programmed and there having to be a fob in the car for it to work. I was checking if anyone had any information about pressing or holding buttons or a combination of buttons to see if the remote start was indeed installed. Sorry for the confusion

I have remote start installed in my Q. No fob under the dash at all. The nice thing is I can start my car from a mile away and with the 2 way remote it tells me how long the car has been running or if it has even started.
 
I just recently purchased a used 2012 Infiniti QX56 and it doesn't have remote start. Has there been any other experiences with activating the remote start through the Consult tool at an Infiniti dealer? When this is done, do they add any hardware modules?
My local Infiniti dealer told me that it can't be done on a 2012, but there are some responses in this thread that state otherwise. I'd like to just use the factory FOB if possible. I also found this company that seems to have a solution also.

Any new information would be greatly appreciated. Just looking for a simple remote start solution here. I see there are Viper kits out there, but $600 seems excessive if you can just activate through a scan tool(Consult).

The aftermarket remote start we had ion our 12 used the factory fob. 3 clicks of the lock button activated the remote start. Can’t remember the brand offhand. It may be buried in this thread.
 
Hi Kcrebel. Yes I think I remember that one. It was directed.com I believe. Went to the website. I think that may be a viper system. I think you're post mentioned that you didn't know the details of the hardware other then it was the 3x lock factory OEM FOB.

I'm hoping to hear more back on the dealer Consult access solution. Maybe that still requires a hardware module to work?
 
Not sure. I can’t recall the name of the unit they used but it was a directed brand which owns the overwhelming majority of the market.
Regardless it worked flawlessly for my needs.
 
I just had a Viper DS4 installed in my 2012 QX56. It works off the 3x lock, I also bought 2 remotes as well. (range is not that great on my factory fobs). It has bluetooth for the smartphone. I can lock, unlock, start car from about 150 ft away. But the viper remote has great range. The remote starter works well. I ended up paying about $350 for the whole package with a 2 year warranty from Mickey Shorr. It also included a T Harness with simplifies installation (less wires to cut) . THNIN3 is the part number for T Harness about $29. The fact that it has a bluetooth app for the smartphone is cool at first...but you will find yourself not using it at all. However, if you buy "smart start" it will allow you to start, lock, unlock from anywhere, have to buy another component and pay about $70 a year. By the way. I called Viper to ask about voice control. I was hoping I could say "Siri start my car" or "Alexa start my car" . But it's not available...and might never be. If you have any questions...let me know

who installed this? dealer or radio shop 3rd party?

did you get all the parts in one "kit" or were they pieced separately? any part numbers or links would be helpful.

did the installers find any issues with the install?
 
It was installed by Mickey Shorr. They have been in the Detroit area since the 60's. They have a pretty big footprint around here. They are also owned by ABC Warehouse. I used to be a store manager back in the 90's. I know the DS4 is a seperate device, the T Harness is separate, and you basically choose what remotes you want. I went with the basic remotes because I don't need 1 mile of range. The remotes I bought are like 1500FT...just the basics is all I wanted. An important piece to me is that T-Harness...way less wires to cut into. Here are some links just to show you the products. Just look for an authorized Viper dealer...they should know what you need.

I looked into Mickey Shorr as well and the locations don't work for me out of Chicago. I did call the place 12 Volt Solutions place I provided a link for previously https://www.12volt.solutions/produc...-kit-smart-key?rq=yr_2012~mk_infiniti~md_qx56 and think I'm going to go with them. It's a self-install and done in 2 stages. They send you the module and harness, you install it, then remove it and send the module back to them and they program it for your car, then they ship it back, and you re-install it. I THINK this is very similar to what Kcrebel has with the Viper module except this one uses the factory key FOB 3x lock button. You do have to splice into 2 separate wires 1)runs up to the start/stop and 2) Open/closed door pin, and the rest is the harness. They are confident it will work as described and if I have a problem send it back for full refund. It has the range of the unlock/lock feature. I checked and mine unlocks/locks from a few hundred feet away and through walls at that range which is fine for what I need. It's $239. I'm going to give it a try.
 
I thought of doing one myself as well...but Mickey Shorr is 2 blocks from my work...so for ME, to save a hundred bucks just isn't worth it....Plus I got a 2 year warranty on it...I can drop it off to them if I have ANY issue and walk to work. What your going with is very interesting though..but my question is...who is the manufacturer of the remote start? Is it made by Vipor, Clifford, AutoStart or some other big name? I would be skeptical if it's some generic type. Do you have a Best Buy where you live? Because they sell the Viper system as well. I'm not a fan of Best Buy...but at least they will stand behind the product. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd go to Mickey Shorr also if I could for the extra $100 bucks, but it's either Grand Rapids or Detroit which isn't an option. I could start checking around also, but I'm not real confident in finding an independent shop that I trust. Sure Best Buy is an option too, but that's only if you can find a tech that really knows what he's doing and has experience with Infiniti setups. These modules are all programmable now which allows them the flexibility to work in many applications and have some intelligence built into them. So yes Viper is a trusted name, but the reality is it's a box with a circuit board inside with a programmable chip. If it doesn't work, you just remove it because it's really just a bypass. This comes with a 1yr warranty and for an extra $50 with what they call their forever warranty. This company has seemed to find their niche in self install remote starts for cars that are push button starts which to be honest makes sense.

Not blaming you for going to Mickey Shorr, just not an option for me. I'll let you know how it goes.

I too am interested in a remote start system for my '11 with the above features:

1) OEM key fob
2) No engine cut off after door is opened or brake is depressed

I plan to visit the dealer this week in Sacramento and will keep everyone updated!

Super easy to program and install. I press the lock button on my oem key fob three times to turn on the vehicle and three more times if I want to cut it off. After that I can unlock doors, and lock doors with out it cutting off the vehicle. All these options you can program. I have mine set up when I get in the car and press the brake it flashes the lights twice to indicate that it is back to normal mode. The vehicle stays on until I push the start/ stop button or if the timer runs out from the initial remote start, which is 5 mins for me.

did you install it or did you have an aftermarket shop do it? if the latter what was the install price?

did they/you have to splice any wires? did you get the extended remotes for extended range?
 
No aftermarket shop required. It took me about 1 hour to install, that is with updating the unit first and setting all the parameters with the computer. Everything is plug in an play except for the wire that connects to the push start button. You will need to splice and solider that in which is not difficult at all. The company has great support, so if you get stuck or need to ask a question they are quick to help. This kit does come with extra wires, but they are not used with our trucks. If memory serves correctly the plug and play connections happen between the brake switch and the ODBII plugs. I did not get the extended range remotes, because the OEM remotes worked perfectly with the unit.

I'm looking at adding this Fortin unit to my 2012 QX56. The installation instructions are confusing. Regular install, Regular install with harness, Standalone, Standalone with harness. Huh?

And then all the instructions look pretty similar to me so I'm lost. Can you confirm which instructions you used? It appears you hook into the OBD harness, brake pedal harness, and start button but then they reference a photo of the BCM behind the cluster as well as several wires like door pin, hood pin, lock, unlock, etc. making it look like more technical of an install than "plug and play".

So I guess I need confirmation of the actual steps you did to install it because the instructions are confusing as hell and don't seem to line up with what you said in your last post.
 
Don’t mean to jump into this, but I went with the 12 Volt Solutions one but I don’t remember the Fortin unit being available at the time. You can see earlier posts from me in this thread. Mine has worked perfect for the year it’s been installed. I had to plug the module in then remove and send it back while the Fortin one is programmable which is nice. Mine also has the phone app. I installed mine myself in about 2 hrs w/o instructions but had a tech on the phone walking me through it. Had to tap in start button wire AND the door sensor on my unit.
