Hello, I am new to this forum and was wondering if any other owners have experienced the same issue I am having with my QX with 57,000 miles.

I took off from a red light and got up to about 20 mph and the engine sputtered and the power steering shut off. Tried to give it gas but nothing. The engine light came on along with all the other lights. I steered it off the road and coasted into a parking lot. I tried to crank the engine but it would not turnover and acted like it was out of gas (have a half tank). Tried a few more times and still nothing. Called road side assistance and waited on tow truck for over an hour. During that time I tried to start but it would not turn over. Everything inside the car (electrical) was working fine.

The tow truck comes and slides it up and delivers to dealership. Once its down the service agent gets in and it cranks right up and he drives it around lot with no issues. I was shocked to say the least. One of the other service agents comes up and says he has seen where the angle of the tow truck allows fuel to re-enter engine and solves the issue. They ran the code test and came back with nothing. They are keeping the car at my request to run further tests.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Quiet scary if I was going 70 mph on the highway with no power steering. I have not had any other issues with this vehicle to date.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Your power steering going out has nothing to do with you car quiting on you. The power steering pump works when the engine I running due to the belt. When the engine dies the pump has no way of running at that point. This is the same with any can with power steering.

Something very similar happened to me in my old GMC Denali. It was the fuel pump line to the injectors was smashed just enough that when temp were up and enough vacuum was created it would collapse the fuel line. Not until the car was off for an extended amount of time would the vacuum release and the line would go back to its shape.

Since this wasn't electrical it wasn't something that you could run a diagnostic on unless it was at the time the line was collapsed and you could Guage the PSI at the fuel rails.

I have a 2011 and just took mine in for the 60k inspection and she runs like a top. No issues, I hope you can get your issue diagnosed sooner than later.

first rule is to check the obd port for any issues. the car is quite smart and will tell you whats wrong with it.

ive seen this happen on armadas. ive also seen issues when the car wont turn over. the ipdm was the culprit.cam angle sensor is something to keep an eye on also. rare but worth a nod.

this sounds like it could be the IPDM. its a relay in the engine room under the box fuse box just behind the battery. it could be faulty.

worse case the BCM is flaky.

keep us posted.
