Here is my goal.....a USB powered hard drive with my entire movie collection on it always kept in the car and plugged in the USB port.
I'm having trouble finding information on what file type and encoding the car likes best. So far, I can't get any video to play, but no problems with audio in .mp3. The car's manual is all I can find so far and it is practically useless. It says only this: USB video supports .divx and mp4 (.afs and .asf). From my understanding, .mp4 and .asf are both containers, and the way the manual is written, it appears that .asf is a codec...also, not sure what the hell a .afs is...probably a typo in the manual? Hope I'm not getting to technical on video formats here. No mention of H.264 in an mp4 which really makes me angry.
So, before I dive into figuring all this out by encoding a short video clip in numerous formats, I though I would see if ANYONE has had success in playing a video from the USB port.
Thank you and have a GREAT day...
