The drivers seat and steering wheel positioning is not working correctly. When the engine is stopped the seat and steering wheel will retract fully. When the vehicle is started, the seat and steering wheel will not reposition most of the time. Pressing the position return switch on the door does return both positions. Sometimes, pressing the switch will start positioning, but will stop when you release pushing the button. Repressing the button will continue repositioning both devices. There are no problems with the positioning motors, they both operate or won't operate at the same time. The only problem is that repositioning is not occurring most of the time, and only part way occasionally. The door was damaged and replaced, could the problem be with the switches on the door or the wiring to the positioning pushbuttons?

without looking at your car its tough to say over the internet. all we can do is speculate.

it could be something with the wiring harness in the door or /and the master switch. the BCM controls all memory functions but it sounds like its not the issue since its able to position other thigns (e.g. mirrors) .

can you give us more backstory? did you just purchase the car or did you get it new? did this issue start happening intermittently or just happened all at once? why /how was the door damaged? do you have a warranty period on parts? did you get OEM parts or 3rd party/refub'ed parts?

I bought the car 3 years ago, it had 83,000 miles on it and it now has 127,000 miles. The controls on the steering wheel had bad problems, so I had the internal wiring on the steering wheel replaced with a replacement wiring inside the steering wheel, and everything worked. One night I turned the vehicle inside a parking garage, and struck a vertical column in the garage, damaging the front edge of the door and the fender. I bought a used front door, new fenders, and had it all repaired at a friends business. The used front door was just taken off of the vehicle it came from, so the wiring harness was not used, the old one was reused. There were small problems with the switches on the door used to position the seat. The repositioning will sometimes stop, and repushing the switch always works again. The mirror does what is supposed to, it does not reposition when you turn off the vehicle, because it shouldn't, so I don't know if there is any problem. The intermittent issue is noticed, because most of the time, the steerwheel and seat will not reposition when starting the vehicle, but occasionally will, so it is intermittent, but mostly will not automatically reposition. The only replaced parts were the wiring inside the steering wheel. I think it could be a connector problem in the seat .

thank you for the details!

it could be an issue with the BCM. maybe during removal of the parts , something on the main harness was kinked or damaged (a pin could have been pinched or some other continuity issue).

electrical issues can be a rabbit hole to go through, but it seems, unless you've already done this, it may be wise to re inspect the door switch and harness on that end, at least to see if there are any physical issues with the master switch and such.
