Yesterday, out of the blue, car went into “limp” mode when I shifted from park to drive during trip to garbage dump. Dashboard lights all shut off, AC, etc all off, and max speed (based on GPS mapping app on phone) of 10 mph
Tried resetting battery, etc. but nothing. Fluid levels look good, battery looks terrible and gets terribly hot but tested fine. I limped it home, and after getting up to 22 mph on downhill, everything miraculously worked again (long enough to get me home at least).
Onboard diagnostic blinked me the 1740 code. Tried it a couple hours after incident and it did it again a few minutes into drive.
Anyone experienced this 1740 issue? Internet code listing tells me it is related to torque converter clutch or overdrive solenoid. Those issues both look like they engage in 3rs gear up to OD. It will go into this limp mode in 1st gear.
I was in a city I don’t know a trustworthy mechanic in. I’d like to fix it myself if I can.
So I got back to car today and the 1740 onboard diagnostic blinking code is gone. Also, no code found on scanner tool.
Onboard diagnostic now blinks 1-9-10-10-10. That, to me, is 19000 code. I do not see one of those codes anywhere.
Feel like this is an electrical system issue (battery light is now on). Battery was hot and seemed overcharged. Voltage from alternator seems fine though.
